I disagree. If it was not a defect they wouldn't have fixed it mid-year. The money is not an issue, I'm not sure why you brought that up.
Yes they corrected their bad design. Its not a defect, nothing is wrong with the truck in its stock form.

Nothing is wrong with it accept that it can't even carry a bed cap. A Maveric can carry a bed cap without adding extra reinforcement. This was an obvious oops by Ford that they even designed an extra part to fix it, and then later changed the design to permenantly fix it. I'm not sure why you feel you have to argue about it. I know it doesn't affect you, but it does affect many others.

I agree with @SubaruRaptor in the verbiage, as it is a poor design not defective... but I do want Ford to step up and sort this for early adopters. The money isn't the issue for me, it is the principle of them knowingly charging for an add on reinforcement brace that was resolved in the middle of the first production year with a better solution. $400 shouldn't be an issue to FoMoCo either. They sold us the trucks knowingly putting the "fix" on their parts site before most of us even received our vehicle orders, and letting dealers charge for installs whatever they see fit.

I'll acknowledge the verbiage may be an issue. The definition of 'defect' does includes the word 'shortcoming' though, so semantically it is true IMO.

I mean it does effect me. I bought the parts, and lost money because of it. Just because I didn't use them doesnt mean it doesnt effect me. I agree with @Catalyst on seeking for a solution that is amicable for early buyers on the principle of the matter. I disagree with you though, as its still not a defect, just poor design.

It sounds like we agree on the issue but just disagree on the wording. I can agree to disagree on that

Also, there are manufacturing defects and design defects, I should have included the word design when I said defect.

I'm taking my j braces back to the dealer tomorrow for a refund. We have one Ranger Raptor we had to put them on, and we have one Ranger Raptor that doesn't need them. I am going to ask that my wife gets a refund for her braces and labor. How can they argue this scenario and justify not giving her, her money back ??? I'll keep everyone posted.

I was refunded the labor on mine. I didnt return the parts because I figured I would just sell them cheap to someone here (which I did do).

FoMoCo website says yheh have more coming in soon. I guess if somebody really needs them before they get them at the dealer, I can let mine go. How did you sell them? Did you just have somebody PM you? I don't want to get in trouble on this site for trying to sell stuff. I know there's a special section for it somewhere.

A user in this thread commented he was near me and was interested, I asked him to DM me and we knocked it out. Otherwise I was gonna post in the sale section, which is how it should formally be done.

My Ranger Lariat build date was September 6th, and it appears to have the updated design. You can get a camera up in there without removing anything to check and be sure.

Thank you! I finally got a chance to climb under there and I do have the redesign.
Went "In Production" 9/5/2024 with a "Built" date of 9/13/2024. Lariat 4X4.

You realized I payed for the brackets......
"At the end of the day its 400 bucks as well, that shouldnt be an issue to anyone here."

You've been acting like this isn't a big deal before you even had a ranger, and now that you do and it's without the flaw, you're saying $400 shouldn't be a big deal to anyone here. Read the room. It's the cost, the time needed to get it done (time is money), and the fact it needs to be done at all on every 6g before the '25 model year.

But you don't get that. You don't see how entirely tone-deaf this kind of thinking is, nor how entitled you sound. SMH...

PS: a design flaw is a defect.

"Definition
A design defect is a flaw in a product's design that makes it dangerous to consumers. Design defects can occur when a product is manufactured correctly but has a flaw in the design."
