That really sucks.
I ended up making an appointment with Apple Valley Ford in MN. I guess all of the Ford shops around the Minneapolis area point to them as the "Ford Performance Shop".
I talked to "Max" in aftermarket accessories. He quote me $200 install if I didn't purchase it from them, but also told me straight up that it would take at most 45 mins.

In today's world, I'll gladly pay for honesty. Plus, I saved enough buying it from Lethal that it's like I'm getting installation for free.
I'll gladly pay for an honest quote, but he was clearly trying to jerk me around like I was a clueless person who just walked in off the street and by doing that he crushed any chance of me trusting them for any future work.

I won't pay a dime over $200 for the install. Luckily I have a dozen Ford dealers around me so it isn't difficult to find someone to meet your price.

Assuming it ever gets approved in California of course. :crying:
Quite a few RR owners in OC.

Hole up. Think about the absurdity of that statement. Paying for honesty. Honesty should be free. Period.

I called Ford Performance today and I know it was just the guy on the phone so obviously nothing in writing and you are at the mercy of the dealer, but he assured me you do not lose your 5yr/60,000 powertrain warranty. please Don’t shoot the messenger I’m just telling what I was told.
I want us all to be fully covered.

So, I think that might have been the wrong question to ask, because you received a bit of a "blanket" answer.
By law, an aftermarket part cannot simply "void" and entire auto manufacturer warranty (Magnussen Moss Act). However, if Ford can prove that an aftermarket part caused a failure to a related subsystem, then they can deny a claim on that specific subsystem.

Ford is considering this Tune an "aftermarket" part, so the powertrain is "at risk" after the 3 year warranty that comes with the Tune. I hope that make sense.

I went in to get my Raptor scheduled for the window software recall today, and then asked them again about installing the Procal tune.

I damn near got into an argument with the Service Advisor because he was insisting it's a 2+ hr job and I called b.s and pointed him to your post to help prove a point.

He refused, then proceeded to pull up the whole Procal 3 install guide and I called b.s again. I told him that even Ford performance said it should take no more than an hour with an hour and a half being the most time needed if they've never installed one before, and by the way that it's the Procal 4 used now.

He then proceeded to try and prove me wrong by arguing that it takes over 30 min to upload my factory tune, then another 30 to install the performance tune onto the factory map then another 30 min to install it on the truck, since that's how long it took to do his 2019 Ranger. I then asked, "when was the last time you installed a Procal tune here?" The reply was, "we installed it on my Ranger here back in 2019 and we've done 2 or 3 since then but haven't done any in the last few years, and we've never done it on a new vehicle."

I fought him the whole way until he finally said we'll time how long it takes when you bring it in. I said 'good, because I'll be here the whole time watching and I'll be the one logging into my Ford performance account for the tech and keeping an eye out to see if you purposely sandbag to pad the time trying to prove me wrong.

I'm trying to stay on good terms with them, but this whole ordeal about the Tune makes me want to install it myself and be done with it.
I would think (just me thinking), that the initial firmware updates, the saving of the stock cal, and the loading of the performance cal onto the tool, could all be done ahead or time so that literally all the tech has to do is plug in the tool, select programming>performance cal and hit ok. O ya, and he's gotta turn the key on, and pop the hood and put a jump box on the battery. That part goes faster than the time it took me to type this!

EDIT: O and BTW the truck doesn't need to come into the shop at all to do that part...could be done in the parking lot, in the writeup area, or hell...the side of the road would be fine! IDK why dealerships are acting this way...this is LITERALLY money for nothing!

When the Procal arrived I logged onto my Ford Performance account and got the software and the devices initial firmware updates.

It's literally ready to plug into the truck to save the stock calibration and go from there.

It's irritated me to the point where I'm going to call Ford Performance tech line and talk to them and see if I can take it up to the point where I have the performance calibration loaded onto the device and ready for the tech.

The Service Manager was completely clueless and by the way he was going about trying to prove me wrong, it means they haven't done any performance tunes with the Procal 4 and basing their 'experience' off of what it was like doing it with the Procal 3.

Does the Tech need to be logged into my Ford Performance account to provide their I.D, or what-ever is needed, as proof of certified install for the warranty?

Edit:: Depending on what the Ford Performance tech line tells me, I may end up calling a few local shops with ASE certified techs to see if they would be willing to do it.

So do I need to order a Tuner first or can I just do everything through the dealer?
Update for those interested:

I called a local dealer who had heard nothing about this. I had found the part number on Ford Performance. He went off and researched it and called me back. He would have to charge me $1100 for the tuner then $450 to install the tune. He told me I could buy it online much cheaper.

I'm still not sure why it's $450 to install it...other than the fact that they can.

I'm going to call the dealer from which I bought it (it's actually owned by the same people) and see what they say.

I am having the dealer install the tune in 2 days. What other bolt-on or simple items would all of you recommend I do next that will play well with the tune? Any specifics on what would be gained such as horsepower or torque or better off-road capability would be helpful. I am thinking a K&N Air Filter should be next and have been running 91 octane.

No, just save the receipt for your records...really all you need is the receipt...like I said literally money for nothing!

I don't know if this was on here yet or not so excuse me if it was. If this is true then good luck with your new tune and new warranty rules, I'm out of the conversation. Im not going to be greedy and I'mnot accusing anyone of being greedy........
