Extra Effort Required To Close Hood With A “Hood Ajar” Warning Indicator
24-2233
29 July 2024
Model:
Ford
2024 Ranger
Markets: North American Markets Only

Issue: Some 2024 Ranger vehicles may exhibit a hood that requires extra effort to engage the primary latch when closing the hood. This may be due to the misalignment of the latch assembly to the hood striker. This condition does not affect the secondary latch operation and the hood will remain secured. To correct this concern, follow the Service Procedure to adjust the latch and adjust the bump stop rubbers.
Action: Follow the Service Procedure to correct the condition on vehicles that meet all of the following criteria:

• 2024 Ranger
• Difficult to latch hood

Warranty Status: Eligible under provisions of New Vehicle Limited Warranty (NVLW)/Service Part Warranty (SPW)/Service Part New Vehicle (SPNV)/Extended Service Plan (ESP) coverage. Limits/policies/prior approvals are not altered by a TSB. NVLW/SPW/SPNV/ESP coverage limits are determined by the identified causal part and verified using the OASIS part coverage tool.

I just adjusted the rubber bump stops up half a turn now it's as smooth as butter. No more slamming it/dropping it from 2 feet up. Now it's just 3-4 inches.

Mine too. I had to move my latch up about 3/16".

For the money I paid for this truck, I'm not going to work on things that Ford should have got right the first time. That being said, there is a service bulletin on the hood latch issue.

Thank you, ill mess with mine tomorrow. I get the sentiment but if i take it to the dealership it will turn into a 2+ hour ordeal.

When I got my Ranger at the end of July the hood was hard to shut, even more so after I installed hood struts and a bug guard. Quick adjustment of the latch and bumpers fixed it and it closes very easily now.

Same. I just followed the video. That was super easy. Done in 10 minutes -- That includes hunting my tools down and putting them away.

By just adjusting the bump stops as described mine now latches way better than it did.
I wish I'd saw this service note sooner since I just had it in for the auto window rollup issue last week and just had then do everything then. Still shuts a little harder than it should.

Did anyone find that after performing hood latch fix, it also fixed uneven gaps between the hood and fender?

You can shift the latch over to correct uneven gaps

My truck is currently at Ford right now and I am literally having to show them this TSB. They originally wouldn't fix the hood latch cause they said the panels were misaligned and had to go to a body shop.

I am trying to get them to follow this TSB first.

I adjusted mine today after watching the helpful video posted by jbethune….thanks!

It was a 30 minute task, as I took my time. I adjusted the rubber bump stops first, then the latch. The hood now closes with firm pressure, or by dropping it from 8-10 inches, way different than dropping it from a couple feet.
In addition, the hood is now perfectly aligned with the fenders. I’m so glad I did this myself rather than taking it to the service department.
