Hi all just my 2 cents : i had a F150 Raptor -(10Speed) before my Ranger Raptor 10 Speed , which i drive now over year on German Highways, Italian Alpine off road tracks and Sardinian Off road tracks - I'm absolutely amazed by the performance and the flexibility. no Hickups or weird things - always performed TOP. Also the different off road modes are fantastic. Just missing the small radius turn assistant :) - but can cope :)

assuming you haven’t driven the 6 speed toyota Tacoma tranny.

It’s. Probably. Worse.

I hate the transmission in my wife’s 2020 Explorer ST so bad that if it’s not improved in my new truck, there will be an extra Raptor for sale in Arkansas.

It’s. That. Bad.

So should we have the tranny oil sampled at the first oil change?

I’m driving that now….of all the vehicles I’ve ever drove it’s the worst tranny/gear combo I’ve ever drove. Absolutely hate it

Per Ford:
Ford's factory coverage includes several protections, including 3 years/36,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage and 5 years/60,000 miles of powertrain coverage.

Well the plot thickens ..
Ford Australia offer as standard 5 years unlimited mileage full coverage warranty .
Must be the further south to the equator you go mechanical things become more reliable !!

I just saw this article on Ford Ranger reliability.
The 2021 Ford Ranger Will Last Longer Than You Think (msn.com)

I ordered a non-Raptor, so I believe it will be the same engine and transmission as the prior Rangers had. If so, this makes me feel good about the (potential) dependability of a 2024.

"The 2021 Ford Ranger is one of the most reliable used trucks available. According to J.D.Power, it has a reliability rating of 85 out of 100, which is great."

"Scores between 81 and 90 are above average while scores between 91 and 100 are best. The 2021 Toyota Tacoma earned a score of 81 and the 2021 Chevy Colorado got an 82. The 2021 Honda Ridgeline actually falls behind the pack with a 78."

"You can expect the average Ranger model to last between 200,000 to 250,000 miles. But with the proper care and regular maintenance, the Ranger can surpass 300,000 miles."

I had a 2022 F150 with the 10 speed. I didn’t love it driving around town. Once you were past 5th gear it was smooth. But anything below 5th and it would have its quirks with hard shifts, both up and down.

So I know the 2.3 has been around for years, seems to overall be well dialed in.

How about the 10 speeds? Have they figured these out yet? Currently getting hosed by gm with my canyon and the trans issues they have.

I’m cautiously skeptical about the ranger, mostly following this fourm to see initial quality and roll out.

Thoughts?
The 10 speed is a solid transmission.

I had a 2017 Canyon with 8 speed and it was the roughest shifting transmission I ever owned. Next, I had a 2020 f150 with 10 speed which was a major improvement over the Canyon. However, it had some occasional rough downshifts in the lower gears but not too bad. Now, my 2024 Ranger XLT has been perfectly smooth shifting to date and I just hope it remains this way!

I've had several different fords with the 10 speed transmission and have had zero issues with them. My Ranger Raptor shifts great.

I've owned 3 (2017, 2020 and 2024) and they were all fine.
