So you're traveling with some valuables. (Luggage or whatever.) If you are going to be parked somewhere for a few hours or most of the day, where do you keep your valuables in that case? (Maybe you're going hiking somewhere for a few hours and need to park at a trailhead or making an 8-hour pit-stop in a downtown parking area to sightsee in a city as you are traveling from one place to another.)

In the cab? People can see what's in there.....

Under the Tonneau Cover? People can't see it, but probably a little easier to break into...

Curious about everyone's thoughts and what you do in this situation.

I mean nothing is going to stop someone who is determined, its just amount of effort required. In most instances, the cab is less secure, because it takes all of 2 seconds to pop the glass, open the door, grab and go.

The Tonneau provides security through obscurity, since if its completely out of sight, its out mind. The issue is a lot of covers dont lock or are easily broken into in a similar fashion to the windows.

If im in the City, its in the Cab. If im in the middle of no where, probably the bed. Neither is going to matter though because if someone has decided they are gonna get you, they will get you.

I try to travel with stuff I can put in my decked drawers. Can’t be cut open and the locking tailgate keeps the drawer shut.

If it fits in cab put it there hard to see it as mine is tinted so dark a passerby won't see it and if it large in goes in bed with tonneau cover over it.

We run a 90 vehicle fleet and put limo (really dark) tint on all the windows from the rear seat doors back on everything including side and rear windows on shells and SUVs to hide our tools from view. In the last few years we have only had a couple of break-ins, mostly at motels. On my Ranger Raptor have a shell (with limo tint) and also a decked box with a key lock in addition to the electric locking tailgate and a console vault. When towing the side x side to a trailhead, we try to take a vehicle with as little in it as possible. I also avoid parking on the street overnight if at all possible. Still, one can only hope to delay a determined thief.

I have a Leer cover coming (someday). It's running late. That has always worked for me. Hard cover with a robust lock. For the time being though I have large black towels that I cover anything in the back seat. With the tint you can't see it. If they want it they will get it. All you can really do is slow them down.

Yeah, I realize the professionals are going to get your stuff, just mainly wondering what people do (in-cab vs in-box) when they have to pick one of those options.
