Dealers will not install this tune on california cars, it is illegal. Jesus christ. Terrible advice. You guys have to pass a CARB Smog inspection from the CHP. However, it’s easily reversed, so if it didn’t pass it could be easily reversed for the inspection and then reloaded afterwards. Read below as well.
I’d say yes if this tune is compatible with the 49 states OEM tune? personally I suspect there is a different OEM tune version for a California approved vehicle. Something you’ll need to check and inquire on your own.
If the Ford Performance Tune is compatible; you can always go to a dealership in Arizona or Nevada fairly easily. Again, if there were issues with the CARB CHP SMOG inspection, it will be the same as above.
Your Ford servicing dealership will know if the ECU tune has been changed/upgraded by the flash counter in the ECU.
In any case, It would behove you to let them know if there‘s a Ford Performance Tune upgrade installed to the OEM tune version. They may tell you they won’t work on the truck as well, until it’s brought back into CARB regulation trim.
Additionally, allot of time your dealership service, won’t tell you there‘s a new ECU software version upgrade. They just assume the OEM tune is intact and download the newer version. Which can affect how the ECU will respond.
Disclaimer; Not telling either you to do something illegal, just suggesting there are always alternatives.![]()

Read the thread, but currently no, it is in process though to get certified according to some.Available for California RR's? With the previous generation Rangers, they stopped offering this kit for California starting with the 2022 Rangers. Still frustrated by this.
They JUST updated this for my 22 Ranger. I've been waiting for 2 years.Read the thread, but currently no, it is in process though to get certified according to some.
When you go to install, the SW detects your VIN and determines the state. If you have a California registered vehicle, the SW will prevent this download so you are outa luck. CARB has tight controls on this. I wouldn't get excited to see this available anytime soon in California. Yeah the person that ordered in December and still is waiting for their vehicle, but talks about it like they have one alreadyI think everybody has purchased the tune except for one person.
Well, DAMMIT! One of the reasons I ordered was to fix my 35" tire calibration. The description says:
Tire size and gear ratio cannot be adjusted
Why couldn't they install their tune over top of this?I'm waiting to see if MPT or Goosetuned comes out with tunes for the RR. I don't want to get locked into the Livernois tuning device again and not be able to try other tunes.
You would need a different tuning device, either a Cobb or SCT tuner. Livernois devise only accepts their tunes. Why couldn't they install their tune over top of this?
