I have my RR on order and figured while I’m waiting I might as well do my due diligence and try all of the “competition” to the Ranger Raptor. My most recent test drive was a Canyon AT4X. The truck looks pretty nice. The ride was also very comfortable but I was shocked by how much power it lacked. For some reason I was expecting much more. It’s not a deal breaker though. What really drove me crazy was the interior. They went with white leather in places you’d be touching which is ridiculous in a truck geared towards off-roading. It looks a little cheap and chincey to me. They also use the piano black in there too which drives me nuts. I can’t believe they’re asking essentially more than a RR for this truck.

I drove the new Colorado and dint feel any different than the current Ranger in terms of power or speed. Same engine as the Canyon.

Under powered is concerning because you come from a Taco.

I have not drove the Canyon but I did get to look at one that was already sold. AT4 I think it was maybe a X. I thought it was fantastic looking interior. A little too nice for me though. Maybe different interior options than the one you saw. I have heard others say it was a little to shiny. I do not need fancy in a truck though. I think trucks are getting a little stupid and are not what most bought trucks for which is pushing the prices way to high for a truck. It is why the Maverick is doing so well. Prices have got stupid on trucks. So what does Ford do up the price on the Maverick and take away one of the main reason to buy one.

Honestly I hope it does not come down to who got the bigger than the next.

I mean it goes like this. Ford launches the Ranger with 4 cyl turbo. and Taco fanboys laugh. I would never buy a 4 cyl. What a joke. Now the Taco goes the same route and it is the greatest since sliced bread..
I hope this is not the same going the opposite with Ford launching 6 cyl and they look down on everyone else with 4cyl. It will probably be the same people who were arguing for 4 cyl too and how great they were..

Who gives a crap what someone else drives. People need to stop worrying about others and focus on themselves in this country. Sorry been reading to many of the next gen forums and groups. So hard to get honest opinions on these trucks anymore. Seems so many are just defending their purchases.

Sorry of topic.

Honestly I am watching this next gen closely.

The Canyon is on my list but it probably is a little too uppity for me for want I need or want or even want to spend.

I need something reliable and something I am not afraid to get a little dirty. I need something to haul lumber and dirt and something if it gets scratched It is not a big deal. I also need reliable and long lasting. I do not tow much at all.

I am waiting for the Ranger 6 cyl. to see what it is like. I bet Ford gouges on it now. Not happy XLT is missing so much and I do not want a Lariat.

I doubt I look at Taco but maybe. It looks strange and maybe it will grow on me. If they improved the seating position that was my main reason to stay away. I know they said they fixed it but how much? I can not buy something with out test driving.

I am interested in the Nissan. I like it is naturally aspirated 6. Should make it long lasting. A little smaller than I would like though and way to expensive for what you get. If they dropped the price I would be all over it. I think it will when Ranger and Taco launch. It will have been out a while and manufacturing cost should have dropped. Anyway seems like a great smaller truck.

Maybe look at the new F150. Not sure I want a full size Truck but honestly not sure it is that much bigger now.

By the way OP most of this post was not directed at you. Just my thought on next gen.

Ford didn't do anything different or unexpected on Maverick pricing. I ordered mine when they 1st came out and was told to expect a moderate bump in MSRP 2x per year just as the Bronco Sport had already been doing. Cost of building vehicles goes up along with everything else in an inflationary economy. Not seeing any extra attempt on price gouging here just "because they can" by Ford.

I'm sitting things out and using the Maverick more these days and will only consider moving it on after I get a good deal on a Frontier King Cab, or the Ranger comes out with the SCab + 6' bed combo for USA. Been casually watching the Nissan for about 6 months and they had been actually charging $1650 ADM on all models at all dealers until recently. I said good luck with that as the #5 selling mid-size truck and now they are discounting them by at least $1k everywhere but finding 1 you want is tough...

By the way I just saw the white. I like the look but no way in my truck. , it would be to dirty.
Not a good choice. The one I saw had tan in the same spots. I think black is another option.
Maybe different trims or interior options?

So the AT4X only offers one trim. There are no other choices. You’d have to go with the AT4 to get a different trim. The white is a dealbreaker for me.

we're in 3rd year of Maverick production 2022-2024, and initial orders and sales started June 2021. So 6 expected/normal price bumps over those 3 years. What was overall inflation rate in 2021-2023? Also, the cheapest Maverick at introduction was $19999 with hybrid, and IIRC the 2.0L w/8spd was ~$1k more. For this year they flipped the script so 2.0L is base/cheapest entry point and you now pay the premium for the hybrid. I paid $26k OTD for my 2022 XL with 2.0, AWD, 4k towing package. IMO, it's still a bargain compared to everything else. YMMV

Just get a ZR2 and be done with.

Only thing lacking on this truck is a crappy e-throttle response (like most factory vehicles). Will be resolved as products become more available.

Power output is similar to my old 19' Ranger with a 93+ custom tune - but now I only have to buy 87.

Thats right there is no 91+ stipulation on the chevy 2.7 motor - you get the same power/MPG on 87 as you would putting in 91+ on factory tuning. Unlike the Ranger which under performs if running less than 91.

YES. The interior build quality was shocking for the pricepoint. That thin armrest support is going to pop off after 3 years and everything was squeaky. I'm all for patriotism, but the interior was like sitting in a 4th of July factory. Almost as headache inducing as the red interior of Alfas.

I had an AT4X on order but canceled once I got to see one in person. The cheap interior, non LED tail lights, manual rear window, leaf springs, and lack of power all turned me off. All that and more expensive then the Raptor. The thing does look badass from the outside though.
