I'm ordering a XLT with the 2.7 l v6. I currently have a 2021 Tacoma TRD OR. I never use the MTS or locking rear diff. Toyota has good traction control without being in a MTS (Multi Terrain Select) mode. Does the vanilla Ford 4WD make use of braking tires without traction?

My use case is daily driver, 4000lb camper towing, driving to a snowy ski area.

You may only need it once or twice but will wish at those moments you had it.
So yes I would get it and not have buyers remorse.

Any steep rutted dirt forest service roads and "yes" you will want it. Agree with the once or twice you might need.

Yup, just visited the dealership and added the locker. He changed my priority to a 5, the highest he could. He said the 2.7 l engine is the gating item for the build.

Absoloutly, It's dirt cheap at 450 bucks and an Immense and Huge help in any off road situation, even a dirt road. Nearly impossable to seemlessly integrate in after the fact and hugly expensive after the fact. Get it. And at least the Basic if not the enhanced Tow package. Must haves for any truck. Will also increase resale.

Good choice. It’s cheap insurance!

I’ve used it a few times already. Then again, I go looking for places where I’ll need it.

I'd say yes. I would even add it to a 4x2, where it may be of more use in sticky situations when you don't have 4x4.

I waffled with this decision as well on my 2.7 XLT 4x4 order. In the end I went ahead and ordered it.
Now if it just gets built week of 8/19...
