is the 2.3L enough or should you opt for the 2.7:??? I fear the cam phaser issues on the 2.7!!!!!

Yep, I wanted the 2.7 but ordered the tried and true 2.3 for that reason. I don't want them pulling my engine. It will never be the same. I'm not towing with it and the 2.3 is peppy enough and will get 2 or 3 better mpgs.
I think I am starting to arrive at the same decision. But that V6 is teasing me. My history of vehicle ownership tells me that I would have sold it before the warranty runs out and so its likely not an issue to be honest. Its more about the inconvenience of getting a problem resolved around the Austin area. So many people moving here over the years that its challenging getting your vehicle quickly taken care of.

We have the same problem here in SC. Mass migration from the north and CA. The crazy thing about the Cam Phasers is most of them fail in the first 5000 miles then they put the same defective parts back in. I dont get it

Well, the 2.7 Eco has been out since 2015, just as the 2.3 Eco, so sorta tried and true.

When I purchased my new Ranger the 2.7 was a must have. My F150 trade in had pretty much the same drive train, 2.7 Eco/10 speed/3.73 gears, and except for some electronic glitches was trouble free.

Not to ask a dumb question, but is the Ranger with the 2.7 noticeably faster than the F-150 with the 2.7 being that it's a lighter truck?

Not really, the engine is detuned by 15 HP and the Ranger is less than 500# lighter than the F150.

I had a 21 Ranger FX2, and now a 24 FX4.
Both with the 2.3, and have never wished for more power.
Both trucks accelerated very quickly in passing situations.
I've got a 2024 Ranger XLT FX4 4X4 w/pro trailer, tech packages. 2.3 engine has plenty of power. Like mpg too . Is it worth the extra $ for 2.7 ? You might ash Google what % of trucks have cam phaser issues with 2.7.

If one were to buy a truck that came off the production line today, it would come with revised cam phasers, correct?

My understanding is the phasers have not been revised so there is no guarantee anything newly built is less prone for failure.

Go on the bronco forum. 2023's and 2024 2.7's still having engines taken out for cam phaser failures. Some have been done more than once. I think there was a slight modification to the part in 21 or so but it didnt fix the problem.

I wonder if Ford is working on the Gen 3 version of the 2.7 or if the evolution will stop at the current Gen 2.

My 2 cents, the whole wet belt thing is overblown and seems to be the same handful of stories parroted across the forum boards with most being the very early small displacement 4 & 3 cylinder engines. Most of those are from Europe where extended oil drain intervals are the norm with the corresponding higher oil acidity levels.
Hey Hootbro gtsy, on these 2024 ford rangers 2.3 L are , how is the oil pump driven, is it with a rubber belt or chain

I think it's gear driven, not belt driven like the 2.7, which isn't rubber. It's some kind of polymer that will withstand oil and heat. The 2.7 has been this way since 2015.
