So I have posted about the drive shaft whistle, not I get hit with the dreaded cold start cam phaser problem. Yup, going back and forth with Ford on this site, and just spoke to my dealer, taking unit in next week for all issues,. Making me sick to my stomach on a new Raptor. You can read my other posts, but reason for this one, I just noticed that my oil pressure gauge seems low? Meaning, It sits below the first harsh mark, and I thought the oil should sit somewhere between the two marks. See attached. Maybe its not a Cam Phaser issue, and rather an oil pressure or pump issue, not getting oil up to the phasers on start up? Thoughts

im confused.

do you have confirmation that the cam phasers are bad? it sounds like you're just assuming that the low oil gauge level means you have bad cam phasers.

as far as i know, bad cam phasers are easy to diagnose from a sound it makes on startup.

To me, what your gauges are showing looks normal. The truck is up to temp, including the oil, and the pressure is going to be low at idle when at operating temp. But if it stays that low when you step on the accelerator, something is wrong.

On a cold startup, front end noise could be a bad cam phaser or it's taking too long for oil to circulate.

Use the actual numerical gauge and not the display graphic. You can configure that on your dash display menu in MyGauges That will give you a more accurate depiction. Also these oil pumps are the 2-stage pumps so in low RPM the pressure is low due to low oil demand and higher psi at higher rpm due to more demand. Here's my gauge display along with the actual psi at idle:

For the cam phaser issue, you'll have a diesel engine like sound at cold start up for a few seconds and then goes away. So if you're not hearing that then it's unlikely.

Yes confirmed cam phaser, can't mess that up, noise is obvious. The gauge picture is me doing 30mph, does not change, that is why I am wondering if something else is cause the cam phaser (noise if you will) rather then them being bad??

interesting< I will do this for sure, but at idle and driving, doesn't seem to move, will watch this way, thanks.

what i found is that it sits low UNLESS your jump on it, but at rest or cuisse speed always below the first line.

Just to update, I had my MasterTech look at the oil pressure on my vehicle on the digital rather than the display and oil pressure appears to be okay on the actual display. It always looks like it's low but it's not

So update, crossing fingers here, but the last week I have had no issues, no noise from the cam phasers?? Not sure why, just went away. Had the issue from around 900 miles to about 1100, and no nothing? Hoping it was something stuck, or tight, or something that broke loose or popped in, but right now, running great. Still have the front-end whistle (See other post) and will work on that this week!

What exactly do you hear when it’s cam phasers? I know my AC compressor is really loud.

Oh you will know it. It sounds like a diesel starting up for the first 5 to 10 seconds. Then it levels off and sounds normal. There's no mistaking but it sounds like nothing else. Sounds like it.

Ok so now I'm totally confused. After almost two weeks of zero cam phaser noises it's back. Makes no sense. I didn't think these things come and go. It's definitely a cam phaser but maybe it's a something else causing it? Told dealer. Going to get with Ford engineer next week. Ugh

Yep, doing 80 down the highway in Sport mode and 10th gear oil pressure is at the quarter mark. I think it's totally normal for these new engines.
And when you jump on it, it goes up just like you said.
