Issues at less than 1,000 miles make it difficult to not be disappointed.

Best way to scratch this itch is to test driver another RR to see if you are just sensitive or have real issues.
You, sir, are correct. Unfortunately, they're unicorns around me. It's the main reason I'm skeptical taking it to my local dealership. As far as I'm aware, they haven't been able to get a hold of a RR yet. Which means they likely don't have any experience dealing with RR issues.

So the dealership appointment went about as I expected. No one there has driven a RR before, so it's all new territory. We did setup another appointment for them to keep it for a day to look at the airbag warning and rear suspension. The service manager didn't notice anything amiss with the ride and idle when we went on our drive, but he drives an older F250 and is used to a rough ride and whatnot. He did acknowledge the uneven rear suspension compression and rebound when I showed him, though. So there's that.

Awesome. So now I have a rattle/knocking during cold startup. Less than 900 miles. It's doing it as soon as a couple of hours after being off. Doesn't do it on immediate restarts after warm up. Sure sounds like all of the cam phaser failures I've heard. Think I won the anti-lottery on this one...

Just an update.

The dealership fixed the airbag warning. Loose connection, apparently. I haven't had any issues since.

They also acknowledged the uneven rear compression and called Ford for advice. They were told that if it didn't change throughout the drive modes that it was "normal." The tech tried to convince me that the torque was all on the passenger side and that they probably made it stiffer to compensate. I told him that didn't make a lot of sense for a performance Baja truck that, when put into Baja mode, locks the rear diff by default which should completely negate the need to compensate suspension compression on one side for torque. I'm still not buying this being "normal"... I feel like there would be a lot more poeple complaining about the uneven rear compression if it were.

Out of the 3 techs that looked at it, none heard the cam phaser tapping/knocking until I came to pick up the truck. Since it hadn't been started all day, I had the service guy come out with me as I started it. He definitely heard it and appeared shocked that none of the other techs heard it. We talked about the work involved in replacing the VCT units, and he was pretty nervous about taking on the work, stating that it no one has worked on any of these vehicles yet and said it would be "interesting," but not in a confidence-invoking way. Le sigh.

Also, another thing that I noticed that's starting to really bug me is the windshield distortion. There are waves on both sides where the windshield begins to curve. And on the passenger side, there's also a fish-eyed section about the size of a golf ball.

It's gotten to the point that I don't even want to drive the truck anymore. At least not in a way where I look forward to it. It's frustrating, disappointing, and really just makes me angry.

Do you know where the passenger side curtain airbag connector was that your service center fixed? My dash warning for the same issue popped up last night. I would prefer to not drive all the way to the dealer and waste my time and gas for something I should be able to do in my garage in hopefully a few minutes, but I haven't found any parts diagrams or pictures even after seeing the same issue pop up on the 5G Rangers. There was a single other post here on the 6G forum stating Ford just revised and replaced the connector for someone else that had the same problem on their new Ranger.

Sorry your early ownership experience has been so rough. Everything you have gone through was my deepest fear of jumping into the Ford world, but I was mostly concerned about the cam phasers. Knock on wood, mine hasn't had that issue...yet. Hopefully they were able to sort yours out by now.

Update on 11/16: Dealer diagnosed my issue as a bad resistor, and it requires a new airbag and pigtail in the headliner.

I'd find another dealer if that one isn't familiar with replacing cam phasers.

I feel the same way about the ride. What are your tire pressures at? I lowered mine quite alot and it is much improved. I had to use Forscan to lower the TPMS low pressure point to get rid of the light.

I also plan to get some lighter 2 ply tires at some point with slightly more road-friendly tread. I think that and lighter wheels would get it where I want.
What did you lower it to?
