leftover 24, order 25, or wait for in stock 25?

I briefly owned a 24 Lariat V6. I really liked it when it worked, but it spent 6 weeks at the dealer so after 4 weeks I exercised Fords buyback (which I feel they handled very well BTW).
I resurveyed the current midsize pickup offerings, and the Ranger TTV6 is really where its at. Competitors are either old tech larger V6s with less power, or scarily boosted I4s on the Chevy side.
The engineer in me says to wait for the 25 model and any updates Ford engineers made. After all the V6 was a mid-year cut in and could have contributed to the challenges figuring what was wrong with the truck I had (if they had fixed in 1, 2, 3 or even 4 weeks I'd still own it. But after 4 weeks they still had no idea and already tried a bunch of things). Does anybody know if this concern is founded? Any engineering changes for the 25s? Different SW versions (that's where I'd expect a change, improved fault detection/isolation). I know the 25s did away with the short electronic shifter, which I really liked actually.
The nearest dealer, as in one mile from my house, still has over a dozen 24s of various trim levels. So I don't expect them to get a 25 in inventory any time soon. And they only have 2 Lariat V6s, gray and black. Not exactly what I'm looking for, but maybe I could go for the gray... If my engineering concerns are unfounded and I can get a really good deal, a definite maybe.
25s are starting to trickle in to other nearby dealers. But I haven't seen the Velocity Blue that I really want. And the 24 I bought last October was from a dealer about a half hour away, I'd rather buy from a closer dealer, and would really prefer to buy from the dealer right by my house.
So if I really want a 25 Velocity Blue, do I wait for one of the closer dealers to have one in stock and buy it off the lot, or do I order one? I've never ordered a new car in my life, so I don't know if you get a deal or not when ordering. It looks like other people on here have gotten good deals when ordering, and I imagine its a benefit for the dealer to make a sale and they don't have the car sitting on the lot for weeks or months.
Thanks for the insight.

Truck Month is on and you can get $1,000 off a '24, if that makes a difference to you. I ordered a '25 in velocity blue with the black package and the V6. It is in the production stage now. The dealer last Oct offered $1,000 off of invoice. There is no obligation on my part to take the truck. If I don't take it you can fly down here to Houston and buy it!

Some members have written that their order was never produced because the dealer did not have an allocation available. It seems to be more likely that your order will be accepted/scheduled if you order thru a dealer with large allocation. Others have mentioned that they have placed orders with different dealers to ensure a Ranger would be available.

I can't speak to any significant engineering changes in the '25 aside from the one common shifter. What was the specific problem with your '24?

There are not going to be any significant changes to the 2025 to make it worth it, you can probably get a 2024 under invoice cost right now, I got mine a month or so ago at 7k below msrp. Some TSBs have come out for the 24 with 2.7 but its too late into the 2025 production cycle for us to see any changes right now. The "nano" platform motors are not terrible by Ford standards. All the 10R transmissions have been plagued with issues for years and ford warranties them on the daily so I really doubt we will see something massively change any time soon.

I have been wondering this same thing. The only thing the dealers near me don't have are new 2024 Ranger Raptors.

I'd put an order in with what you want. As far as colors, all the 25's by me are either black, white or grey, very few other colors. You said the dealer nearest to you is your preference, maybe go to a high volume dealer for a better chance at an allocation, although it shouldn't be an issue since you aren't seeking a RR.

I’ve done 2 orders now. The nice thing about ordering, aside from obviously getting exactly what you want, perhaps not as applicable to the Ranger with no deals for 25, is you get the better of the deals available at time of placing the order or at time of delivery. So you can still get a deal when ordering.

2025s are definitely hitting the dealers.

Yesterday, I got out my Mustang (a rare sunny day) and was taking a cruise past the local dealer. There sat a Marsh Gray Ranger Raptor next to the sales office in all of its glory.

When I got home, I checked the other nearby dealers to see if anyone got a Ruby Red XLT, and a dealer about 60 miles away has an XLT with the chrome. I’ve been waiting to see a “non-AI / real life” Ruby Red Ranger before I put my order in. Driving up there today.

Now I just have to choose what color i want.

Can you take some pics and post them please???? I have Ruby Red Lariat being built. The dealerships in Michigan keep advertising they have 2025s but when you call they say it's on order. Thanks

Pulled these images from cars.com. If I go past the nearby dealers too I’ll shoot a pic of the Raptor (personally, I didn’t care for the Marsh gray).

There are certainly engineering changes between model years, and changes within a model year. Unless you’re looking to have a very specific TSB addressed through a part / assembly change, you’re safe getting a ‘24.

That being said vehicle reliability through component and assembly updates generally improves over time. I’ve seen single components go through 6+ iterations on a single generation. I work at a tier 1 supplier.

You’re asking if there were changes to ‘25 that might assuage your concerns compared to the ‘24 after your experience with that one, but didn’t actually tell us what was wrong (or the symptoms) with your ‘24.

Other posts list all changes from ‘24 to ‘25, and as recent as in the last day or two was a post similar to this one talking about whether to buy a leftover 24 or order a 25. You might want to dig through those posts for some good info.

OP here. My problem with the 2024 TTV6 was after 200 miles it developed a serious misfire. Ironically I was heading to the dealer to pickup my plates when it happened. Almost left me stranded. No power on a busy highway was pretty dangerous too. I pulled over a couple of times on the shoulder, turned off, turned on, would start going again and would only get up to 35-40. If the dealer fixed in 2-3 weeks I'd still have the truck, but after 4 with no idea what to really do and multiple part swaps already, I was done, lemon. After I was all approved on the buyback and just waiting for the paperwork to come through, they actually fixed the truck and I was able to drive it for a couple of weeks. I really liked it, but with everything they changed on it to fix it, it was no longer factory fresh.

The local dealer, not a small dealer at all, but they didn't have the Velocity Blue on hand when I purchased last October. Well they still don't have the a 24 Lariat V6 in Velocity Blue, but nobody nearby has a 25 either. The local dealer does have a 24 Lariat V6 in Gray Metallic that maybe I could live with at a deep discount. Maybe I'll have to stop in there and see what they have to say, what could they do on that 24 vs what would I pay on an ordered 25?

The only difference I've read about between the 2024 and the 2025 are Black out treatment, exterior colour changes and one of the glove boxes is deeper.
On that note, as someone stated the 2024 are a bit cheaper and you can get a nice discount.

I went to the dealer near me today. They still have 18 2024s on the lot, but only 1 Lariat V6, in black (not interested). I suspect they still won't get any 2025s in stock for a while. I ordered a 2025 just the way I wanted. Blue, V6, 4x4, Lariat, FX4, advanced tow, running boards, spray in bedliner, and box side step. He said if there are any new Ford rebates at time of delivery they will be applied.
