I briefly owned a 24 Lariat V6. I really liked it when it worked, but it spent 6 weeks at the dealer so after 4 weeks I exercised Fords buyback (which I feel they handled very well BTW).
I resurveyed the current midsize pickup offerings, and the Ranger TTV6 is really where its at. Competitors are either old tech larger V6s with less power, or scarily boosted I4s on the Chevy side.
The engineer in me says to wait for the 25 model and any updates Ford engineers made. After all the V6 was a mid-year cut in and could have contributed to the challenges figuring what was wrong with the truck I had (if they had fixed in 1, 2, 3 or even 4 weeks I'd still own it. But after 4 weeks they still had no idea and already tried a bunch of things). Does anybody know if this concern is founded? Any engineering changes for the 25s? Different SW versions (that's where I'd expect a change, improved fault detection/isolation). I know the 25s did away with the short electronic shifter, which I really liked actually.
The nearest dealer, as in one mile from my house, still has over a dozen 24s of various trim levels. So I don't expect them to get a 25 in inventory any time soon. And they only have 2 Lariat V6s, gray and black. Not exactly what I'm looking for, but maybe I could go for the gray... If my engineering concerns are unfounded and I can get a really good deal, a definite maybe.
25s are starting to trickle in to other nearby dealers. But I haven't seen the Velocity Blue that I really want. And the 24 I bought last October was from a dealer about a half hour away, I'd rather buy from a closer dealer, and would really prefer to buy from the dealer right by my house.
So if I really want a 25 Velocity Blue, do I wait for one of the closer dealers to have one in stock and buy it off the lot, or do I order one? I've never ordered a new car in my life, so I don't know if you get a deal or not when ordering. It looks like other people on here have gotten good deals when ordering, and I imagine its a benefit for the dealer to make a sale and they don't have the car sitting on the lot for weeks or months.
Thanks for the insight.
