So if I am driving on a snow covered road in 4wd high should I have the locker on or off? I am saying speeds in the 50 mph range.

If the system works the way my Maverick Tremor works The locking rear will not be functional over a certain speed and 50 is well over the limit. The locking rear icon on you dash will be a gray color when in stand by mode. Check your owners manual. Page 212 Ranger owners Manual.

The systems and how they function are very different. The Tremor is not a true locker.

Does not matter. If you have an fx 4 Ranger with a locking rear it will only be functional below a certain speed in 4 high or low. ( Ford description ) You can activate the electronic locking differential and shift it on the fly within the operating speed range. The electronic locking differential automatically disengages when the vehicle speed exceeds a set value and automatically reengages when the vehicle speed goes below a set value. See Switching the Electronic Locking Differential On and Off (page 209). It also automatically engages based on certain selected drive modes. See Four-Wheel Drive Modes (page 204). The electronic locking differential is for use in mud, rocks, sand, or any off-road condition where you need maximum traction. It is not for use on dry pavement. Note: The electronic locking differential is for off-road use only and not for use on dry pavement. Using the electronic locking differentials on dry pavement results in increased tire wear, noise and vibration or driveline damage.

You need to keep reading. When used in certain drive modes there is no speed limit. Like I said very different from the Maverick. The Maverick is a AWD vehicle. Its FWD with a PTU to send power to the rear. The Ranger is a true 4wd with a transfer case and solid geared rear axle.

Have you driven a Ranger Raptor?? I've been well over 100kmph on super soft sand with rear locker engaged. It took it like a champ and wanted more, it was me who backed out, not the Raptor! I can easily see this thing push over 60mph wihout too much fuss in deep snow

Settings I used for soft sand: 4H, rear locker enabled, tyres down to 14psi, traction control fully off, send it

Thanks for that detail. So mine will not be an FX4 but a 2025 Lariat with the optional locker. It has a switch on the console from what I understand.

Yes I get it but realistically you would be not driving on the road in those conditions at that speed in NY with 9 inches of snow on the ground. Yes off road is another story. I drive on the beach every summer and doing 60 MPH is risky on the soft sand over here. Besides there a speed limit here. I know the Raptor is an excellent awesome truck was considering it however I ordered the FX4 instead for more practical reasons.

Have you driven a Ranger Raptor - I think it will be able to reach those speeds without too much trouble

You have a Ranger on order?
No I have a 2024 Raptor. I replaced a 2022 Maverick Lariat Lux
