Every time I think I want the 2.7, I floor my 2.3 in Sport mode, and say "Nah, don't need the 2.7". Plus, you have to option 4x4 to get the 2.7. So, that would be $5,680 above XLT.
If I needed more power, I'd just spend $700 (plus install) on the Ford Performance Tune and push the 2.3 to 315 HP and 370 lb./ft torque.
And once I get my 2.7L and want more power I'll just install a tune and push the 2.7 to... Who knows how much HP and torque...

I have had a 2020 Ranger and now a 2024 Ranger. I was thinking of waiting for the 2.7 engine but if the price is similar to the Bronco, then it will be over $2000 for 30 more HP. Also I had waited long enough to get my new Ranger. Someone on this thread mention a 2.3 tune for way less money and a big boost in HP. If you want to go big, the Rapture would be the way to go and it will pass anything on the road except a gas station. How have you used your vehicles in the past? Towing heavy loads, at the track or just everyday driving? The basic engine does great for payload hauling and everyday driving. I put 60,000 miles on my 2020 and used it moving many trips of house stuff 400 miles away and never felt I needed more.
Not sure where you're getting your numbers, but to correct the record, the 2.7 produces 45 more HP and more importantly, 90 more lb.-ft. of torque. No tune will get the 2.3 to perform as well as the 2.7.
Another thing to consider is that the Ford Performance tune takes the warranty down to 36 months. If you take into account the $900 cost for the tune + installation by a Ford dealer, the differential cost is closer to $1,000 or slightly less.
Lastly there will be virtually no difference in fuel economy between the two.
Not everyone wants or needs the 2.7 but for those that ordered one, the wait will be worth it.

After waiting 40 weeks for my 2.3L and taking delivery, 2 weeks later the 2.7L became available to order, call me crazy but I ordered one. Nothing wrong with the 2.3, just want the 2.7. We'll see what the trade difference is when it arrives. Build date 8/5/2024.

Nothing crazy about that. I would seriously consider it If I could get the 2.7 without having to get 4x4.

Once again, it was my opinion about the 2.7 because it is what I want based on my needs. Perhaps the 2.3 works for your situation, and it will absolutely do everything you want it to do. And yes, you can get a tune on it to squeeze more power out of it. For those of us who ordered the 2.7 as a 2024 MY, it will be a wait. In fact, my build date moved from this week to the week of August 26. Based on experience, I expect it to move again or something else to slow it down.. And I may not take delivery for quite some time. But I’m OK with that. For my situation, it’s worth the wait. Happy Rangering everyone.

A $50k 2.7L Ranger has absolutely nothing to do with logic - there is nothing logical about it. It does, however, have everything to do with fun, joy, desire, want, and buying it because you can.
Fun and Longevity. The v6 twin turbo should last you longer if it is well maintained. It has both direct and port injection to help with that icky carbon buildup.

A V6 twin turbo is going to cost you more money throughout the life of the truck. Typically, when you have any work done its twice as expensive and twice as much work. An inline 6 like the Hurricane engine helps with the added cost. Anyways you might make it up in resale value. If you need more power for towing close to the max of the Ranger I'd probably go with an F150 anyways.

The carbon build up on direct injected engine requires mechanical cleaning of the intake valves after 50,000 miles, I don't think it effects the longevity of the engine though. I have heard the 2.7L is a very reliable engine though.

I found a Ranger with a 2.7L near Phoenix so I'm headed there tomorrow to test drive it. FYI, my 2.7 Ranger XLT/FX4 build date is holding strong for 8/26/24 and I have a Window Sticker now, so hopefully just a few more weeks for delivery.

I haven't heard much from anyone else who has had a Ranger 2.7 delivered, other than the poor guy whose steering gearbox failed and the part is on backorder. Check out his story here: https://www.ranger6g.com/forum/thre...-with-2-7l-engine-delivered.12155/post-189829

Anyone else get to drive a Ranger with the 2.7L yet? I'll let you know how my test drive goes tomorrow--if they haven't sold it yet!

Happy Rangering everyone.

Nothing to report. The dealership is closed on Sundays :( So, I'll have to figure out another day this week to go see it and test drive. Stay tuned!

I have wanted a Ranger for several years but would not purchase until a V6 was available. It is personal preference for me. It's not an economic decision, it is an emotional desire for more. Raptor 3.0L would be great but I'll never use the suspension enough to justify it. I will, however, place my 2.7L twin turbo in sport mode every day and be happy I made the choice. :)

I'm right there with you. There's just something about driving a V6, especially one with twin turbos. My XLT FX4 2.7L is currently showing "in production." Can't wait!!

I'm confused. I ordered a 2.7l Lariat on June 21st. I got 2 emails only saying the order is confirmed, nothing more. I saw a previous post here that said the 2.7l is "exhausted". How are others being built and do you think I will ever see mine. Ford has botched this big time.

It took 2 1/2 months for me to receive a serial# before I could track my order.
Maybe your dealer didn't have allocation. They're not always forthcoming with that information.
I'd be more inclined to put the blame with them, not Ford.

I’m waiting for 2025. See if any color options appeal plus the mentioned black out package, hopefully Ford allows it with FX4. Still debating a F-150 used. Some Lariats near me with very low miles around 47 to 50k. I can wait and I will. Would love a new Ranger but economics will determine best value. 👍
