So just as I did my exhaust tips, I decided to paint my own parts instead of buying new stuff.

I removed my skid plate..

Unbolted the two 15mm bolts and the single 8mm holding the intercooler bushing (each tow hook is the same) and removed both tow hooks

I cleaned up the metal abit but just using degreaser and using soap and water to clean before applying paint

I used VHT gloss red caliper paint. I decided with this cause I heard it resists chipping and it’s pretty thick paint. It cost me $13 at a local Autozone

And results were awesome!

The red looks super bright and it does look pretty thick. I did only 2 coats

What do you guys think?

What about the rears? How would you attempt to do those?

I don’t think I’m doing the rears , but I bet it looks like I would have to do a lot of taping up and masking to avoid over spray. It looks very time consuming to remove honestly. It’s a huge one piece design with the tow hitch

Are these front tow eyes exposed from the factory or behind covers ?
Aus vehicles have the same tow eyes but there hidden behind covers that blend the front of the truck.

I like it. I have Code Orange paint coming from TouchUpDirect today to paint the tow hooks, tailgate lettering, and maybe the heat extractors. Since I still have to rust reformer the drive shafts they might get a coat of orange too.

Hookproductsusa makes different color silicone tow hook covers. They only offer for the F150, but work. I bought one pair and test fitted front and rear on my RR. The front needs a small amount of trimming. Now I’m waiting for the rear pair to show up. I’m adding silicone to them, so there bonded to factory hooks. No pictures yet. Alternative to painting.

Looking good! Did you have to take off the skid plate to access them?

And what's the torque spec on the tow hook bolts?

Will do. Going to start small and expand if happy with the color. I think the contrasting color with Shelter Green is going to look slick.

Yes the skid plate has to come off to remove them. The skid plate bolts up them directly.
and regarding torque, I just got them on super snug with my 3/8 hand ratchet. I don’t know what spec is on them.

They are temporarily out of stock for the F-150 ones. Was thinking about getting blue for both the front and rear. Using regular recovery gear, the silicone might get destroyed on first use, but I don't do enough radical off-roading that I'm too worried about it.
