Hey y’all, I’m new here but been around on the Bronco 6G forum for a few years. I’m normally all things Bronco but after attending the Overland Expo and seeing the Ranger Raptor, I’m seriously wanting one.

For those that arnt familiar, 74Weld is a huge name in the Bronco game, they work with Ford Performance Racing and design USA made Portals and steering components in CA. Their quality is second to none.

Quinn from 74Weld has developed their portals for the Ranger Raptor now and are even working on a stronger steering rack itself as well! Check out the video of my walk around of their build. 74Weld will be releasing more in depth info later this week per their YouTube channel.

Needless to say, I was blown away by their initial build and can’t wait to see what else comes. A Ranger Raptor on portals is my current dream build for sure. Cheers!

To each their own :)

Personally, I can't fathom choosing a truck that is optimized for high speed baja running from Ford Performance and turning it into a crawler... I'd think the shorter wheelbase of the Bronco would be more suited for that application. Good thing we are all entitled to do as we please with our vehicles though!

So I’ve seen this come up a few times in this forum and it’s something that was talked about the last few years in the Bronco group already so I hear ya! But hear me out.

These portals have been used in Ford’s off-road Racing program for years now. 74Weld portals are on all of Ford’s off-road racing Bronco’s. They are your regear for bigger tires, allow for larger tires without changing your stock suspension geometry and keep the factory performance but give you a ton of additional clearance. They do not convert this toa rock crawler at the expense of go fast ability.
I get this will the same hurdle that had to be proven over on the Bronco side but trust me, these guys are experts. Go watch their YouTube channel, you’ll be blown away by their expertise.

I assumed the fundamental point of portals to be regearing for low range torque vs. just adjusting for more tire clearance and keeping existing final drive ratios for larger diameter tires. Does the gearing and steering rack compensate for the additional unsprung mass as well with say 37 MTs and these portals themselves?

Yup, so the portals themselves are the regear required for larger tires to keep everything happy. It’s not referring for lower torque per se. They also include a billet knuckle for added strength as well as changing the rear axle over to a full float design for even more strength and reliability. They are tested at King of the Hammers and a dozen other off-road Baja/rock style races every year and regularly their vehicles come 1st, 2nd and 3rd in their class every time.

They work great as a daily as they keep the stock ride quality and reliability (due to geometry) and don’t put undo stress on components but changing the angles like a conventional lift which can cause CV angle issues, travel issues, etc. plus you keep the Fox live valve shock which is huge.

The steering rack is the same from the Bronco essentially with some difference in electronics only. I’ve dissected a few of these racks and have also done a few swaps. The internals do not like bigger tires. The rack 74Weld will be offering is going to be similar to their bronco version which they have a ton of videos on so I recommend browsing their channel for more info. In short though, yes, this is a complete package, tested and proven in the off-road racing world, suitable for on road and off-road, designed, built and sold in the US.

I started a thread about these portals already. Interesting idea I say, looks cool.

Takeaways I saw from previous thread were the cost, illegal in most states because of fender laws and practicality for some.

Yea cost is a factor and why I don’t have em on my Bronco yet! If you were to regear, do suspension and buy bigger tires you would be in the 10-15k mark typically if using high quality parts so the portals are a step above but they also include the full float plus knuckles. Still, at the end of the day it’s a chunk of change (Affirm, cough cough;)

Tire poke was minimal on this Raptor. Barely noticeable, but easily fixed by changing offset of your wheels to pull it back in.

At the end of the day not for everyone (including me right now). But it’s still super sick and having seen their portals perform in person, I am blown away.

Yeah, okay..... lol
To be fair, I talked to 74Weld and they are currently working with Method on a new Bead Grip Wheel that will retain the factory offset for the Ranger Raptor. They just ran these wheels because it was what was available at the time, and they recognize that the offset is a little crazy right now. Its a proof of concept. The guys at 74Weld love the RR and see a ton of potential in it, so they are calling all of their buddies in the industry to try to speed up development for our trucks. He also mentioned that he just got off the phone with the owner of GFC to tell him about how amazing the RR is. Even if you don't like the Portals, these guys love the truck just as much as us and are doing everything they can to let the world know how awesome they are.

Is the Bronco Portals like $20K?? I hope this is not the case for the RR. There is a guy in Australia that was able to fit 37" without spending anywhere near that with +35 offset wheels. I think 74weld had a 0 offset wheels on that RR and that's why there was so much poke but also it increases the swing radius which leads to more rubbing to the front and rear of the wheel well. The best is always to go the minimum offset to clear Suspension components.
