And now you’re a lawyer…………….You don’t own the proprietary software, Ford Motor Co does. You have to meet the requirements of their warranty specifications and standards. If it ain’t yours, leave it alone or suffer any consequences attached to doing so.It is 100% ethical to modify software on a device that you own. I'm a software developer and absolutely encourage everyone to modify, customize and hack their devices after it has been legally purchased. It's your right as the owner of a product to do so.
It doesn't matter if Ford has engineering and lawyer clout. The law says what it says -- ford needs to prove your changes directly caused the warranty claim. Me modifying my headlights to have the anti-glare feature is not going to get a warranty denied for the engine, axles, drivetrain, etc. This has been discussed multiple times on this forum and on every other ford vehicle forum. Thousands of people modify their ford vehicles via forscan and have their warranty claims honored.
Also, literally no one is saying you should lie about anything. Ford can see what you modified via their logs.
Quit fearmongering. If someone wants to modify their vehicle via ForScan, the chances of it causing issues with warranty are near 0 and there is ample evidence that this is correct.
Your statement above " All Ford has to do is show unauthorized evidence of access……that’s it." is 100% incorrect according to USA law.
Go ahead and press the point with Ford and see what happens. You tell your dealership service, you’ve modified it and see what they say. Then report back here what transpired word for word. Better yet, contact FORD Warranty Division direct by email, tell them and see their response, then post it here for all to see.
They can easily see the modifications you've made to from their “as built“ software settings.
Yes, it’s been discussed but not tested and no one has provided the specific proof either. Push come to shove, FORD would bury you in court. So, your insistence is anecdotal and irrelevant.
You call it “fear mongering,“ because of your personal bias and self-justification. I’ll do what ever is permitted in conversation by the rules of this forum. You’re not in charge of anyone but yourself.
The truth is, everything you’re referring to is anecdotal and literally false, because it’s not been tested in reality and there’s nothing factual to support it. You can’t even provide one specific instance to support what your commenting too.
But you have to be right, so it makes you personally feel better. Fair enough, so much for human behavior and response. However, I don’t happen to agree with you ethically, factually or lawfully.
Frankly there’s something ethically wrong with anyone; who will modify proprietary, copyrighted, software, knowing its unauthorized. Then refuse to admit or lie to a dealership service when asked if it was modified. All in an effort to save a possible warranty claim.
This is a generalize statement but if the shoe fits wear it.
