ProCal Tune Mistake by me- Advice

I got the procal tuner as a gift for my Ranger Raptor. I was under the impression that this tuner retained warranty no matter who installs it because its a ford performance part (i know, mistake by me for not looking into it better).

I ended up installing the pro cal tune myself without any issues. I've put about 500 miles on the truck since, and I've had no issues, the tune is great.

But, I am worried about my powertrain warranty because of my dumb mistake of not reading into doing it yourself vs. having it installed by ford. Is there any way I can revert the tune & then bring it into my dealer to have it redone to retain the powertrain, or will they already know that its be done and i am basically screwed either way?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. I just had my rear axle replaced under warranty and they did not mention the tune at all. You could try to find a mechanic with an ASE cert to make you an invoice saying they installed it if you are worried.

It's just a warranty on the tune not the powertrain is how people here explained it, so unless your truck develops an issue and the cause is the tune I doubt you'd run into any issues with dealer.

Real simple corrective action; remove and reload the OEM tune which is easy to do. Take it to an ASE mechanic, have him simply reload the tune from the Procal and provide you with a receipt for the install.

Shouldn’t cost more than $90.00 for the paper and certification. Then add it to your account as per FP requirement. It doesn’t record mileage when it’s installed, so there’s no issue.

Getting the paper to prove the warranty for the Procal tool and tune which he’s entitled to, isn’t scamming a dealership, especially if he made an honest mistake. Also taking in considering; the FP warranty is only good for the Procal tool and tune solely. It doesn’t take the place of the OEM warranty.

On the other hand; purposefully lying to a dealer to get a warranty claim approved while attempting to defraud, is ethically wrong.

Which is; “changing toggle settings in the ECU, with a bootlegged unauthorized software, knowing it’s illegal especially if you intend to lie about it to your dealership service.”

There‘s no warranty claim pending on his truck and simply is more of your fiction.

And here you are, with the same disdain and embarrassment, attempting to spread those same falsehood, even after being shown directly from Ford Performance.

It's 2025. Your vehicle is communicating with ford every time you start it. No paranoia just facts the things listen like your phone too. Ford is on this page too. You can't beat the game if that's your game. Take your truck to the dealer, they will note it and take care of you. Honesty works. All of us that work in the automotive industry appreciate it and see through the BS. Trust me we have heard all the BS. BTW I do not work for ford, I do work with every manufacturer and know how much further advanced the vehicles are than people think they are.
