I thought I saw browsing the forum right after I bought my RR that some have come with the low oil not full on the dipstick from factory. Mine is above the low mark, but is a little less then half way to full mark. I am being lazy I know, but what oil does the 3.0 EB come with from factory fill?

Mine takes a while for the level to come up after shutting down. Manual states to wait 15 minutes for an accurate reading. If I wait long enough the 7 qt recommended fill only reads a little above 1/2 on the dipstick.

No - that was $5000 in my pocket . . .

Weird! So I went out and bought a qt of 5w-30 and threw in about a 3/4 of a qt. I let it sit for an hr, and now stick reads right on the full dot. Does not make sense that at 7qts your reading is showing half.

The correct oil level is the center of the two dots, but really anywhere in the crosshatched area is completely fine. If you filled it to the "full dot", which is not in the crosshatched area, you overfilled it. Probably not enough to cause an issue, but you shouldn't have put that much oil in.

Ugh! Ok appreciate it. I will re check it again! Might be right in the crosshatched area. I don't have it here at my house, but I wish I had my oil extractor handy to pump some out if needed. LoL. I am OCD that way.

How do you know that? I've thought forever that the dots indicate the low and high marks, while the cross hatched area is simply to assist with oil sticking so you can see it.

My source? It's just something "I know." I'm not doubting your sincerity, but if you have an actual source, I'd like to learn something new.

Right! Why would a level showing less then half on the stick mean that is the normal level. Did Ford put a dipstick in the 3.0 EB with the wrong dipstick? LoL. Don't think so. My truck was delivered with the level showing less than half. Never in my life have I seen that. To bring it up to right to the top of hatched mark took 3/4 of a qt. I guess sure you are in the "safe" area with regards to being in the middle, but in mind that means it needs some more oil.

I just double checked the manual (pg. 406) and it looks like the 2nd dot is "ok", but not ideal. It's listed as the maximum, with the nominal spot being just at the end of the crosshatched area. Realistically, if you shoot for the center between the dots you'll be fine (which is what I've always been taught).

I don't know why manufacturers can't come up with a consistent way to measure your oil. For example, here's the instructions for the 2.0L and 2.3L EcoBoost engines, which is why I always just shoot for the middle and call it a day. The 2nd dot for a 2.0L engine would have been overfilled in this case.

So your answer is: read the manual! Thanks for the response, which I should've have needed. I just looked at the manual for my 2.7 l Ecoboost. It's written more vaguely, but essentially echoes your manual.

If there was any doubt, you should take it in to the dealer for them to check it if it's brand new. They should have checked it during the PDI. Never assume the dipstick reads perfectly either. The dipstick can be made with flaws and errors like anything else. When it's ready for an oil change, physically measure to ensure you are putting in the correct amount.

Dealer delivery failure. Mine was delivered with the same amount and I checked it twice. I would have made them fill it correctly but I didn’t want to drive back to the dealership. So, just topped it off at the house.

I also checked all the other fluid levels to ensure they were properly filled.🇺🇸

Both dealer, and factory failure! Don't think I have ever seen it before. Yeah checking fluids you can see. How about the diff's? Saw a video of a guy over in Aussie land that had his dif replaced due to low oil. Kind of scary!

Can be but that’s exactly why I check. It was half way between low and full, so it wasn’t an issue.🇺🇸

All the Bronco guys say that the axles and transfer case are also low on fluid. Going to change my fluid at 3000 or below I do any towing, whichever comes first
