If you’re driving 1-6 hours I think your wife is right. I have a RR and love it. Except the tiny gas tank. Coupled with poor gas mileage you will be stopping often to fill up on road trips.

Speaking as a former BMW owner you will miss the refinement and quality of the BMW.

I’ve been married for, I dunno, 25 years or so, and it sounds to me based on your original post, that she wants what’s right for you. Give it time, and like I said earlier, show her that you’ve thought it through and it really does meet your needs as a vehicle. If your wife is like mine then she’ll want what’s makes her husband happy. Or as with me and motorcycles, you’ll eventually hear the magic words, “just shut up and buy the damned motorcycle already! Just promise you won’t make me hear about it anymore.” Followed by the always appropriate response, “Yes dear.”
Coming up on 30 years. This works.

As a versatile vehicle that does a little bit of everything very well the RR is a great choice IMO.my good experiences are:
1) The weight, size, and height of the RR make it feel more like a “muscle car” than a “sports car”, almost like a grand touring vehicle (even without the v8 growl the v6 exhaust note is nice). If your heart loves sports cars over muscle cars that might be something to4)
2) I love my F150 that is 21ft long. I do not like daily driving my F150 that is 21ft long. It’s hard to park and rides like a truck. The RR offers a much smoother ride in a much more manageable daily driver form factor. The RR drives like a much smaller vehicle, and feels a lot more like my Dodge Charger.
3) It’s just fun to drive, it’s got some “soul” in its design and handling that is lacking in a lot of vehicles today.
4) My wife and I fight (in a good way) over who gets to drive it.

The “downsides” for me have been:
1) The RR is missing some things I’ve come to expect on a high-end trim. (no ventilated seats, cup holders not heated, under seat storage is pitiful, memory seats don’t include side mirrors, not a fan of the orange highlights in the cabin). Over time in a daily driver these might become more of a factor.
2)I’m with those who mentioned the small gas tank. I expected the fuel economy to be what it is but the gas tank seems 20-25% too small. It’s kind of a pain to fill up every 300 miles (or less).
3) As a midsize truck you’re getting a five-foot bed which is tiny, limited towing capacity, a small back seat, and a more narrow cabin. These things are livable but truck purists may scoff.

For me, all these are relatively small inconveniences or trade-offs. In the end, there aren’t many “muscle cars” you can load a kayak into. My measure of if the car I bought was the right one is usually, “Am I excited to drive it?” and “Do I look back at it to appreciate it after I park it?” Yes to both for my velocity blue RR.

And, honestly if you bought a RR you could sell it within a year with perhaps <10% loss on depreciation compared to similar vehicles so the decision is “reversible”.

Definitely an ego purchase for use as you describe. A Lariat or XLT High with the 2.7 will do everything you described and save you a bit of cash for upgrades.
Thought about the Maverick? Better fuel use and very versatile without the bigger footprint of the Ranger.
I did. And the other trim levels of the Ranger. They didn’t give me a he excitement that they he RR did.

Have her watch youtube reviews on the RR. A loaded full size truck would set you back around 80-90K. The RR comes loaded under 60K. She will love the speed and tunable exhaust, especially in baja mode! If that is not enough tell her you can get a tune kit to bring it up to 450HP. To top it off they are a rare sight on the road, not like the Chevys / GMC 1500 or F-150s. If all else fails tell her you will take her on vacation the French Polynesians Islands, Bora Bora, Tahiti & Papeete! Good luck.
I like how you work. Appeal to her love of cars and speed, cost, compassions, and bribery.

The approach I took was to fully research every pickup out there. Night after night watching every YouTube video on pickups. After many months my wife asked when we could get back to regular TV. She asked when I was going to decide. Toss up between an F150 with a Whipple and the RR. At this point she was so happy 😁 that I ordered a RR, didn't even ask the price! Funny thing was six months earlier I had a deal for a RR at $60K but she said no, way too expensive.
I was in the YouTube rabbit hole too. That sent me out to test the brands. Nissan, gm, gmc, and Toyota. The RR was the clear winner. Drove like a car, fast when needed, engine didn’t sound like it had asthma, and not bouncy/squishy all the time.

Update.
so my plan is coming together. We were discussing things today and out of nowhere she said that getting an SUV with similar abilities as her x5 doesn’t make sense and I should think about something that we could use for our weekend excursions/getaways. In addition, the truck we borrow for odd jobs is about to crap out. All things I mentioned a couple months ago. So yeah, inception works.

I need to get her behind the wheel of one so she can experience it. I found a dealership with an Explorer ST (on her list) that also has a RR. Hmm, hunny, how about we compare that to this?

My wife is the one pushing my upcoming RR purchase. I started looking at Jeep Gladiator Mojaves and then showed her the RR. She said it looked much better and I should get it :)

Who is paying for it? That seems to be who gets to make the decision

Well she flipped again. This time conveniently leaving out the ride quality and focusing on “you’ll hate having a truck because it has a bed and not a hatch. He opinion all stems from her history of full size trucks. There has been too much back and fourth.

I have to decide if this is a hill I’m going to live/die and declare this is the direction, or hold off.

I could play that card. But not sure I am going to.
