It wants to feel a slight amount of torque on the wheel. My Escape drove me crazy until I learned how it senses hands on the wheel.

My solution is to place one hand on the wheel at the 4:00 o’clock position or the 8:00 o’clock position and let the weight of my forearm apply the torque that it wants. Once I started doing this I get no more warnings and I love the lane centering.

Yes I've noticed this a few times. I was trying to determine if it uses pressure sensors or heat sensors to know if you're holding the steering wheel.

I'm hoping there is a Forscan value we can swap to disable this annoying alert.
It senses movement, not hand pressure on the wheel. Just push left or right with slight effort. No need to actually cause the vehicle to move left or right, just the effort against the wheel position is what it takes. You can steer one handed doing this and it will leave you alone.

"You can steer one handed doing this and it will leave you alone.” or you can turn it off and it will also leave you alone 😃

I guess i'm used to our 2021 F150 with sync4. When you turn on adaptive cruise, the lane centering doesn't come one because it is toggled of in the center stack.

On long drives it’s awesome and takes a lot of the movement of the wheel off you. Those who don’t like it can turn it off.

Sometimes it's annoying. I've found it does tend to bounce you from side to side in the lane. Other times when there's a slight jog in the road, the wheel violently jerks to compensate. Can't wait to get pulled over for that. Sorry officer, I swear I'm not drunk, my lane keep assist is. I still like it enough not to turn it off.

I’d have your camera calibrated. Mine doesn’t do that.

The lane keeping in my Honda Accord is the same, you have to jiggle it to prove you are driving. I use Lane centering on-demand... need both hands off the wheel for a second to open my drink, that sort of stuff. I wish Ford would let us turn it off by default, that is what I was used to from my Honda.

I would have to say this is the worst lane keep system I have.

I pretty much gave up on using it. I am either fighting it to the point it really annoys me or if I adjust my grip on the wheel to a light handed grip and for the most part let it do its thing, it thinks my hands are not on the wheel, and eventually I get irritated enough with the whole situation that I just shut the damn thing off.

I have around 1200 miles on my truck now. Mostly highway miles. I have started just turning on the cruise and immediately shutting lane keep off.

Seems I am not the only one based on this thread and a few videos I have seen of other owners commenting on their frustrations with the issues we are seeing with this system.

Hopefully Ford comes up with a software update for this issue at some point.

Until then, does anyone know where I can shut this system off completely, so every time I activate the cruise it does not come back on with the Cruise control?

There are both lane centering and lane keeping. You can turn off lane centering in the menu. You can only also turn off the assist portion of lane keeping but you can't disable it. You can only set it to alert and lower the sensitivity which is also in the menu. With alert only at the lowest setting, it is livable to turn on cruise control and leave lane keeping on. It should only buzz the wheel if you are changing lanes without signaling or too close to the shoulder. With alert only, it won't move the wheel for you.

Is that in the center stack screen?
I did not see it in the cluster screen settings.

Generally I hate nanny tech, but ACC + Lane Assist worked perfectly on my 800 mile drive home after buying the truck. Other than getting the "keep hands on steering wheel" which at the time was annoying only because I didn't know how to satisfy it. Now that I do, no complaints and it works perfectly on highways.

Honestly might be my favorite car feature since the introduction of AA/Carplay. For long highway trips (i do multiple 13+ hour drives each year) it is a godsend.
