Must be a Raptor thing. I odered May 6th and only have the generic 45 day email saying, "we're working on your scheduled build date". There are some scattered on dealers lots now so I'm guessing they don't want to schedule Raptors until they move some. Hope it's before it gets cold.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I took your advice in finding a dealer that has one in stock. I cancelled my order, got my deposit back and managed to find a used lariat with 1500miles on the odometer for the price of a XLT. This all happened within a 4 hour window. Picking it up on Monday. So excited.

20240719 received email "we’re still working on your scheduled build date"

Incredible. Apparently other XLT folks are waiting for a "scheduled build" date while later orders are getting theirs. I cannot make any sense out of this for manufacturing logistics or marketing or corporate image reasons.

Update! Just got "Scheduled for Production" build date week of September 2, 2024. I had gotten my order confirmation on April 20, 2024.

Mike,
Yes, absolutely bizarre as to your delayed scheduled production date. We ordered our Lariat June 27th and I received the September 2nd week scheduled production email today.

It has to do with options. If you have a bunch of dealer options and there are constraints to those options, others get built first. Also remember that the priority code is just within your dealer, they still need an allotment and then depending on how many priority 10s there are, then they take from the pool.

Well Rod, apparently I have good company (as in a others with a long span between order and schedule date). By April I and dealer folks guessed that production would likely have smoothed out. And yeah, to run with your 'bizarre' description, I just couldn't imagine there were so many production days of backlog (for whatever reason)in front of our late April orders.

Jory, I have followed all that chat in the forum, but for example don't know what "dealer options" means. I chose options off the Ford "Build & Price." "Priority code" and "allotment" are beyond me. For example if allotment is based on dealer size then eventually that method would converge on there being no small dealers left. I can't imagine that strategy.
Cheers,
Mike

Anything that is a Dealer Installed Option (DIO) (think ordering stuff like bed mats and things that can be done after its built). If you chose the 2.7 engine, those are now on exhausted. If you chose the 17in gray-painted aluminum wheel, also limited same with the bead locks.

Combine this with the fact they generally have a prediction on how many configurations they will build for a given car. So X amount of XLTs in configuration x,y,z which have various options. Stock for things is based upon that. Also add in that the bronco is built in the same factory, so we share general production capacity with them.

To make any given vehicle they will reconfigure the floor of the plant and things to optimize the construction. So one month they may not build any XLTs because there isnt enough orders queued up.

Its tough to say why yours took so long to build but theres a ton of factors that play into what they build, which is not transparent to us as the purchaser. The dealer, depending, has more visibility but that varies as well since there is a chain of commands.

From what I know after researching a bit is this:
  • Dealer needs an allocation. No Allocation, nothing matters.
  • Priority codes are arbitrary, and unless you are below 10, you run the risk of sitting a few months with a priority 10 depending on multiple factors.
  • Ford has to have the parts for what you order. If something is limited or exhausted, the things above start to matter less and less.
  • Exhausted doesnt mean they have zero of something, just they don't have enough for a full production run. This is reserve is held for defects during shipping and other things.
  • Limited means, they have the part, but not many left. Depending what it is and how its shared amongst the order stack they may also decline to build a lesser trim with the option for a trim that the option is standard on.
  • It is generally best to avoid DIO type options. The bedliner for instance has to go to a different place after its built to get sprayed, and other things means Ford has to have the part in stock to make the truck, they wont build it then have it sit for obvious reasons. So its best to order those after you get the vehicle and install it then.
  • For any given model of vehicle there is a preferred spec Ford wants to build as the profit is the most. That is not always the highest cost vehicle, its generally somewhere in the middle, so ordering outside of the bell curve presents its own issues of Ford hurting their bottom line to build a less profitable version of the car. Ford is a business, and they only care about making money at the end of the day, remember this.
  • Order timing also matters based upon scheduling and order availability and the current model year cut off before new orders are the next model year.

I ordered end of April and as of today scheduled to be built the week of August 19th. 2.7, Xlt, 301a, tech, trailer tow, fx4 and spray in bedliner. Crossing my fingers it doesn't get delayed any further

My dealer had a allocation for a RR and I grabbed it up... I've been keeping an eye on the pizza tracker and my production date has not changed ( week of Aug 12 ) fingers crossed... I went wit the standard wheels, mud flaps and SIB... it also helps i only live about 20 min from the plant, so no rail transport... good luck to everyone waiting!
