  1. What are you towing with your 6th Gen Ranger?

You'll be impressed in how well it does pulling a Casita. In some areas of Texas we hit 40mph headwinds and sidewinds. While I certainly don't like towing in that sort of weather, the truck was unfazed except to downshift to 8th gear (Tow mode normally locks out 10th, so usually cruise in 9th)...
  2. What are you towing with your 6th Gen Ranger?

Boy, you have no excuse for not going. Corpus Christi is a lot closer to Big Bend than central Virginia:D.We visited Terlingua which certainly had a long mining history.
  3. What are you towing with your 6th Gen Ranger?

Just finished a 4500 mile road trip to Texas towing our 17' (3000# wet) Casita trailer. Pic is outside of Big Bend National Park, Texas. Truck doesn't look the greatest wearing about 3000 miles of road grime. The Ranger pulled like a champ. Computer MPG of 19.1., hand calculated 18.5. That beats...
  4. Infrequent hot/burning plastic smell

No, I haven't while pulling our small (3000#) travel trailer. Though that was just a short 80 mile trip with small rolling hills to test things out before our Virginia to Texas trip coming up. Interesting to hear other replies so I will be informed if I encounter this on our Texas trip.
  5. Oil change - vacuum extraction 2.3

Yea, I'm hoping someone else has tried it successfully and explained why it was. The oil pan is oddly shaped with a lower half at the back side where the drain plug is. I think the end of the tube is hitting the "upper" half and won't/can't make the corner to continue to the bottom part if that...
  6. Oil change - vacuum extraction 2.3

Thought I'd try the vacuum extraction method on my first oil change in my Lariat 4X2 2.3lt. I use this with great success with my VW Tiguan. It sucks out all but 2 oz. of oil! Unfortunately with the 2.3 lt engine at least, something prevents the tube (I tried two different sizes) from reaching...
  7. Hood Protector - with or without "bump"

I too installed the Aeroskin II with the hump on my '24 Lariat. While it's only been on there for a little over a month, I've had one, yes one bug splatter on my windshield and that was almost at the roof line. Is this due to the "hump" changing the aerodynamics so bugs flie (pun intended) over...
  8. Towing setup questions - Tow Mode and Trailer Light Check

Yes, LEDs are fine with the truck. I too had a tow vehicle that indicated a trailer lamp was out if it was an LED (not enough current draw) therefore I never changed my trailer lights to better, brighter LEDs. I will now.
  9. Towing setup questions - Tow Mode and Trailer Light Check

Thanks guys. I took the trailer down the street to set the brake gain and indeed one must manually put it in Tow mode (on rotary dial on 4X2). My previous tow vehicle (2013 VW Touareg) would automatically put it in Tow mode when trailer connected. After reading the OM again, I don't think the...
  10. Towing setup questions - Tow Mode and Trailer Light Check

Newbie here. Picked up my Lariat 4X2 last month. I hooked up our camping trailer (17' Casita) today for our first camping trip to a local State Park. Question that I cannot find the answer to in the OM: does the driving mode change automatically to Tow when the trailer electrical is plugged in...
  11. Had my Rev hard tonneau cover installed today!

I just picked up my Ford Accessories REV Hard Folding Bed Cover which I'll install tomorrow. I used Groupon's 20% discount (SHOP#24) for a $272 discount. This is better than Ford's $1,000 limited 25 % discount which would give you a max of $250.
  12. 2025 vs 2024 Lariat Found out good stuff at dealer today

The shifter in my '24 Lariat 4X2 is the mechanical one. I think the electronic shifter was found in the 4WD versions, at least for the '24 model year.
  13. Larger oil filter for 2.3?

I'll have to remember this. The Walmart derived FL-910 is much cheaper than a Kohler for my Husqvarna mower.
  14. Larger oil filter for 2.3?

I just bought oil and filter for my first oil change for my recently purchased Lariat 4X2. I am somewhat appalled at the small size of the Motorcraft oil filter. It is only slightly larger than the filter on my lawn tractor's 725cc engine. I have to assume Ford engineers know what is needed. I...
  15. Mileage on your truck at delivery?

6 miles on mine. Most of that was the dealer driving it to the nearest station to fill it up.
  16. Ceramic coat before or after tailgate letters and hood deflector?

Thanks for all of the replies. I will definitely install first, ceramic last. The hood protector is more for the small stone chips I get on the front edge of all my previous vehicles. It supposedly alters the airflow to allow at least some bugs to go above the vehicle instead of on the...
  17. Ceramic coat before or after tailgate letters and hood deflector?

I am about to apply a ceramic coat to my Lariat. However, I also have a Lund hood protector and tailgate letters on order. I believe one should wipe down the area where the letters and hood protector are attached (adhesive) with alcohol. Will this take off the ceramic coat if I apply it first...
  18. White material between cab & bed

My Lariat with a build date of September 17 does have the "white material" between the bed and cab.
  19. Steering wheel buttons stuck

Fred, I love this forum! Thank you. As I said, I hoped I was doing something (or not doing) stupid, and I was. Rod
  20. Steering wheel buttons stuck

New here. Just drove home my June 26th ordered 4X2 Hot Pepper Lariat. Great ride! On the way home I noticed the first (last?) possible build issue. Either that or I'm ignorant of Ford controls (first Ford since 2001). The Set+ and Set- cruise control buttons on the steering wheel do nothing...
