I'm at the point of losing my ever-loving mind here! First, CarPlay works flawlessly for everything BUT phone calls. The one thing It should excel at!

Every single time I'm on a call, within 5 minutes, CarPlay disconnects, goes back to Sync bluetooth call screen, then immediately back to CarPlay. When that happens, callers can't hear me through Ford Sync BT (even though it's on display). Then it keeps happening randomly while on the call. Playing Music, navigating, using OnX, Gaia Maps, Audible, works flawlessly, but phone calls drop randomly for 30 seconds or so. No rhyme or reason.

Then another issue popped up yesterday; I asked Siri to make a call, it all happened through the display and CarPlay was connected, but the XM radio was still playing over it and call sound was going to my phone, not CarPlay through the head unit, even though the head unit was displaying the call.

I've deleted the BT connection, reset phone, rebooted Sync head unit. Cannot figure this out.

I've not found help for this, hoping to find some here.

I’ve had a similar issue pop up with CarPlay in past week. Is there a way to reset the unit? On VW you hold down power button.

Very helpful response. I appreciate how well you really took the time to understand exactly what I was asking before schooling me on Internet forum best practices.

I did search first. Lots of CarPlay issues but I didn’t find anything specific to calls. I don’t have a CarPlay connectivity issue, I have an issue specifically with CarPlay randomly crashing ONLY while on a call.

I had the exact same issue and I felt it was my truck until I rented a new Explorer and had the same issue. Call drop after a few minutes and even crashing the head unit and Bluetooth where the phone would not reconnect. That lead me to believe it was my phone.

Did a full wipe and reinstall of all my apps, a huge pain I know, but ever since then I’ve never had an issue. There is something odd with iOS 18.3 and Sync 4. But now it’s all good.

Hope that helps.

Carplay has been pretty solid on my 24 Ranger, but unreliable on the 24 Bronco that I used to own - both are Sync 4. Not sure if a silent Apple iOS update fixed it, or the Sync software versions are different in the two vehicles. iPhone 15 Pro.

I also had CarPlay issues in my 24 Ranger, drove me crazy until I figured out that my front dash cam was using Wi-Fi and it would hook up once in a while and knock the CarPlay out, so I turned the Wi-Fi part off on the dash cam and corrected my issues.
