Mixed opinions. If not that bad and only at cold start they state minimal if any. If noise all the time I don't care what anyone says its doing damage. If mine comes back I'm getting it taken care of for sure while on warranty.what are the risks of continuing to use/drive a truck with a cam phaser issue?
Do have a video of the noise you heard from a cold start?Ok I gave up. Traded it back in. Could not sit an wait for total cam phaser melt down. Still not sure how Ford lets this known issue occur. But I'm out.
Google it. Plus dozens on this forum.Do have a video of the noise you heard from a cold start?
No, he doesn’t.Do have a video of the noise you heard from a cold start?
I do but again several on this site. Pretty distinct sound. You can't miss it if you have it. Sounds like a deisal starting up and last a few seconds. No, he doesn’t.
Go to this thread this is what it sounds like; https://www.ranger6g.com/forum/threads/horrible-noise-on-cold-start-up-of-ranger-raptor.8750/![]()
It's really not too important, cause the phasers are serviced as an assembly, but what is going on is they leak down when the engine is off. There must be some type of check valve/ball to hold oil in the unit when the motor is not running. I would assume this is what they are referring to. they could also leak externally, and you would never know cause they are inside the timing cover, and that oil will just return to the pan. Once the oil pump is pumping and the are full again it's a non issue. When you install new ones they make that noise the 1st time you start it...should be quiet after that. This problem is not unique to Ford...honda is having alot of these too...and a few other makesDoes anyone know what the "stuck internal component" is for SSM 52772?
Is it just stuck until the oil pressure builds, or is it stuck all of the time and the oil pressure / lubrication is just masking it?
I would consider it important since they have to take the engine out of a brand new $50k+ truck to change them. It's really not too important, cause the phasers are serviced as an assembly, but what is going on is they leak down when the engine is off.
