So I was set on getting the BAK Revolver X4S Tonneau Cover. Now I see Ford has this one and it looks the same except for the aluminum is silver and not black and it doesn't have the plastic end caps the X4S has. I've heard the X4S end covers can break off but it wasn't a concern for me since it seemed like an easy fix.

What do you guys think and does anyone know the warranty with the Ford one?

The Ford top looks to be basically the x2 but made for Ford by Bak. It is not as nice of a cover as the x4s. The x4s has black slats and better cover material. I'd buy the x4s, but I have had both and both were good tops.

That's kinda what I thought, I don't care about the black slats since I don't keep it rolled up that much but you said the x4s has better cover material? I know the x2 had an issue with the material falling off over time from the slats and this Ford one doesn't have that but what is the difference in the cover material, I'm assuming you are talking about the black top.

The black top on the x2 is like a shiny black vinyl tarp like material. The x4s has a more premium looking and feeling matte black material. So it's really a personal preference as otherwise they are essentially the same top. The x4s also has end caps that are supposed to make it more water tight. Either is a good option.

Sentry has a ct top that is similar, but having had both now, I prefer the bak tops.

I like that the Ford version uses mounting holes in the bed rails instead of the clamps shown in the BAK online instructions. Hopefully the BAK will also use the same kind of mounts in the versions they ship for the Ranger since they undoubtedly make the Ford one.

I'm considering the Ford Retrax since it appears to be cheaper than ordering from Realtruck. It comes with some brackets that don't seem to come with Retrax covers normally. I'm trying to figure out what exactly they're for. The cover doesn't appear to clamp to them.

From what I see, I think they both use clamps.
I was looking at that cover also but I don't like how they take up bed space. The bed is small enough so I personally want as much room as possible when I need it.

These are still clamps:

But I think they are a lot cleaner looking than standard clamps.

Totally on board with you. And the clamps let you easily remove it should you need to. I don't want a cover that takes up any bed space.

I've had the Ford branded version for almost five years and have used it on two different F-150s. The only problem has been that the glued on "FORD" emblem fell off within the first year. Other than that it has held up better than any other tonneau cover I've ever had, is easy to use and takes up minimal space when rolled up. It also has a cleaner look IMO than most others because it sits flush with the top of the bed. I bought mine new from a dealership accessory installation contractor for about half price so I can't complain.

I had an early BakX2 on my last full size Raptor (10yrs) and an X4s on my new one. Both are pretty good covers for the price as they are less expensive than most. The X4s cover is nicer and looks like it will hold up a little better. My X2 had cracks in the vinyl from being rolled up over the years, and the felt under the cover came loose in the Heat, so the better materials on the X4s is a welcome improvement. Friends had the X2 and the Vinyl gave them issues over time, probably because they used the wrong protectants and they lived outdoors when not in use. Both are good, but for a little extra the X4s will probably last quite a bit longer, which is reflected in their warranty.

We also got BakX2 from 4Wheelonline and been working fine for two years now without any crack and almost no leak.

Go with the BAK version. It will be up to date. I got the Ford version with my 19 ranger and it had a terrible fit and just enough differences to be an issue. plus the BAK version is cheaper. :)
