I'm going to upgrade the Goodyear Wranglers that came stock on my XLT FX4 in the next month or two. I'd like an AT tire that will perfrom reasonably well on moderate off raod (figure no more than "typical" 4-5 rating on OnX) but is also good for highway (grip, noise) and does decently well in snow.

For comparison, I had a set of Yokohama Geolander G015s on a previous Subaru and they were OK - good in snow and on highway, reasonably grippy for mild off-road, but not quite tough enough (I got a couple punctures in their first year).

My shortlist includes: 1) BF Goodrich Trail Terrain 2) the Geolanders, 3) Toyo Open Country ATIII, 4) Falken Wildpeak A/T4W, 5) Michelin Defender LTX M/S2.

I think KO2s and KO3s are too aggressive and noisy for me.

I'm open to other suggestions. So, two questions:

What tires would you recomend?

Sugesrtions for reviews/videos where I can learn more about your suggestion?

Thanks.
Just get some that have belted sidewalls like the KO2's and KO3's. Not many trucks are made with truck tires (LT tires). Doesn't make one bit of sense to me........

I'm not planning to do a lot in the rocks so I will be going with the XL load range instead of the LT with 3ply sidewall. I think the 3ply at 54 pounds each is a little much for the Ranger.
I like your taste in tires - I’ve been shopping the Baja Boss ATs from Mickey Thompson too.
So the truck came early and I never even test drove it with the stock tires. Those Goodyears are a joke as an AT tire. The 265/70/17 on the Ford preformance wheels are really close (1/4") to the steering knuckle, but no rub. The Baja Boss is very quiet. 90% of the complaints about tire noise are the road, not the tire itself. I'm still debating on my winter tire choice for the stock wheel, but i will probably decide in a week or two.

Texas Truck Channel guys on YT have a video where they went with slightly larger Falken Wildpeaks and new rims.

I was tempted by the Falkens, they are a good tire and my other choice, but i wanted to try the Mickey Thompsons.

I’m going with the Falken Wildpeak A/T4W. They’re stacked in the garage waiting for my truck to arrive in a few days. I’ve had Falken MT’s when I had the jeep wrangler in the lower 48 and loved them.

While not a popular position, I have no issues with my 'factory' Goodyear AT tires.

Yes a more aggressive tread would be nice to look at and might help in a few off-road situations but overall the Wrangler Adventure Kevlar tires on my Colorado have done a fine job .

50% of my 75K miles are highway towing a small travel trailer. Maybe 1,000 total off-road miles on class 1 -3 trails (class 4 need larger tires, better ground clearance) and I've never had a situation when I felt the tires were an issue . . . to be fair . . . I do try to avoid deep mud but have been in it and was able to cross without getting stuck or in the ditch . . .

Have been in all types of snow/ice conditions towing a 2700# trailer and without the trailer and as long as the tires had good tread depth all has been fine.

Of course like all tires - - a 50K mile tire is only good for about 40K mile unless you like driving with very small tread depth {might be good for sand not so for dirt/snow/mud}.

So unless you have a very specific driving surface that will be over 70% of your driving. Any AT tire will be fine . . . pick the one you like, makes you feel good, and is within your budget. The real-differences between brands/styles is only an issue in specific special case driving situations.

Next month will be ordering my third set of Goodyear AT on this vehicle.
Also had two sets of 100K mile Goodyear Eagles on my last sedan . . . never a performance issue.

But that is not what the Ranger FX4 comes with. It comes with Wrangler Territory AT/S. Much different tire and not very good, IMO.
