Highway driving with Adaptive Cruise OFF

Cruise control set (adaptive OFF), I come up behind a vehicle in front of me that is doing less than my speed, my Ranger does not slow down until I turn cruise off or tap the brakes.....that part is working fine.

What I find strange is when a car passes me and comes back into my lane (and still accelerating away from me), my ranger always slows down for a second and then resumes the cruise speed. Car is not cutting me off, it's a good 2-3 cars ahead of me.

It's like it wants to do the adaptive cruise mode and then realizes....oh, no, he has that selected OFF.

Any one else have this happening??

Any good explanations?

Reduce the ACC sensing range, that should resolve it.

Okay, I'll try that next time.......

but if the ACC is turned OFF....I can understand the sensors are still looking for targets, but why is it affecting my speed momentarily?

It’s probably related to the pre-collision active braking system (Best guess).

Mine does it too. Slows for a second or 2 then going back to normal.

I believe the system is just anticipating the car in front being slower than your set speed then resumes when it notices the car in front speed is greater than your set speed. What i have a problem with, when the cruise control is set to a certain speed, the recommended hwy speed changes to a lower speed and the truck just drops its set cruise control speed to the recommended hwy speed. Very frustrating!

Is it possible to completely turn off the pre-collision active braking system? I thought I had turned it off in the menu but still have had it engage a couple times. I was passing someone camping in the left lane and approaching a car in front of me in the right lane driving much slower. I had room to make the pass, but the truck sensed an imminent forward collision and slammed the brakes on. A couple times it was as I was merging left and the person camping probably thought I was brake checking them when it was really my Raptor doing so. Fortunately, I haven't been rear ended. Hoping it can be completely disabled.

There is a cruise control over speed tolerance setting in the center stack. It defaults to “0” miles over the speed limit. I changed mine to “+9”

You can turn that off. It's not speed sign recognition (that's the handy sign on your cluster), but I believe it was close to there in the menu.

Edit: sometime mentioned the +- speed. I think you turn it off completely.
