I Called a dealer here in CA. over the phone they said there would be a $20,000 over msrp.
last year it was $10,000 now it $20,000, what do they think, I'm going to pay that.
I said no and just hung up. should I give them a 1 star on yep, I have never done that.

You can place an order through any dealer with allocation to the factory at MSRP, it cannot be marked up you place a custom retail order through the dealer.

My Ford dealer is trying to sell a hot pepper red RR. He would probably make greal deal, been on his lot for maybe ~3+ months. Location is in northern VA. Ship it west! Let me know if you want his contact information. He sold me my 2025 RR for $750 under MSRP.

I ran into the same problem last year when the 24s were about to come out, here in North Carolina. Friend told me about his guy, dealer that doesn't do that.
Gorno Ford outside Detroit, Michael Rey there did an awesome job getting me one of the first ordered built and delivered at sticker. So I flew to Michigan and drove it back. Heck I should offer that service. If anybody wants me to drive their vehicle to their home. I have a bit more time on my hands these days. Good luck.

I called around to see who had inventory on the lot back in Nov, and Escondido had 3 there. I drove over there and started talking with their sales guys, and they mentioned the standard $10K markup after about 20 minutes of talking (apparently it's 20K for full size Raptors, and 30K for Rs). I had a trade-in that they lowballed me on (an old CMAX, thought I could get 9K for it via private sale, they wanted to give me 6.5K, ehhh whatever).

Told them I wanted to deal, but wasn't going to pay a markup AND get screwed on the trade-in. They went and got their manager, and he said - what if the markup was $6K?

I 'countered' with $4K over and give me $1K extra on the trade-in, and they said deal. I also went into the deal with $25K down, not sure if that affects how things generally go.

I guess the moral of this story is go and bug them in-person and see if you can get them to budge. I wouldn't call what I did negotiating or haggling exactly, but they'll do what they can to make a sale if they think you're serious.

I would hesistate to rely on mass emailing or texting to get a true sense of the market...since it takes no effort on your part, don't see why they would take it too seriously vs. someone walking thru the door who wants to make a deal.

Just my .02 cents.

How you gonna try to give advice on negotiating when you paid 4k over msrp and got lowballed 1.5k on your trade in, bringing the total to 5.5k, paying roughly a 10% extra of the Ranger Raptor's MSRP.

Did I miss the part where you countered with flat MSRP and matching Carmax's appraisal before going up to 4k over MSRP and 1.5k less on on your trade in?

I related my SoCal dealer experience and said:

Go be mad somewhere else, friend

I'm not mad, more amused that you think settling for that price point is something to write home about. Any dealer in the nation would have taken that deal. Why would I be mad, its your money not mine, though I would be happy if I could have saved you some money.

You would have been better off selling your old car to Carmax, taking that $ and putting into the Raptor as the $1000 difference between the 8k you got and the 9k Carmax offered is greater than the tax savings of trading in a car worth 8k. You take your trade in off the table in negotiations and tell them you will finance privately. And you stay firm at MSRP. When they call to counter, tell them MSRP + Carmax match and you'll finance with them, final offer. Also let them know you already have a factory order placed with another dealer at MSRP so you do not seem desperate and that you have another option locked in.

Getting a car shipped from coast to coast is roughly $1000. You could have bought any of the many available at MSRP nationwide and paid an extra $1000 for shipping, the cost of the difference if you had taken Carmax's offer on your trade in for $9k instead of selling it for $8k.

I had ordered a RR a month ago. I got nervous with tariffs etc. I found one 1000 under msrp so I got it instead. KC area. Depends on the dealer. I know one dealer in the area has a 10000 mark up.
