After lots of research I’ve noticed 2 versions of the transmission gear selector in photos. However, I have not found which one comes on which models. 2024 or 2025, 4cyl or 6cyl, XLT, Lariat or Raptor. I would rather not get the short flat stubby one that rocks back and forth vs slides. Can anyone shed some light on this?

It shows in the Ford Build & Price tool but the "short flat stubby one" only comes on the raptor, for 2024 at least.

Edit: My mistake, the B&P shows it in the Lariat as well in some photos

Yeah, there really is no way to tell from photos only. I’ve managed to find all trims with photos of both. Really wish they would clarify this. I’m leaning towards it being a 2025 change, but haven’t seen a 2025 on a lot to verify.

Yes the short "electronic" shifter came on the Lariat and Raptor in 2024. Some chatter on here that it may go away in 2025 and the build pictures on the website support this. Ive driven both and prefer the taller standard shifter. Ive got a 25 Lariat on order so we will see when the first 25s hit the lots.

I've also driven both (have a raptor but was given an xlt as a loaner while the raptor was in the shop) and they're both fine. The standard shifter in the xlt is definitely more intuitive as it feels more like other shifters. I watched a bunch of reviews of the raptor before I bought it and they almost always mentioned they didn't like the shifter so I was expecting not to like it but after living with it for a few months now I actually don't mind it at all. There is a slight learning curve but I can quickly shift without looking without issue.

The shorter shifter is in vehicles with the automatic parking feature.
I don't quite think so. This 24 has the auto park thing but the regular shifter. I was thinking maybe its a lariat thing but I dont know.

Active Park Assist 2.0 doesn't exist in the 2025s, only the 2024s (or is going to be discontinued very soon) so they are all getting the traditional shifter. Ford is doing away with that feature entirely and that's what the "short shifter" was for. They said barely anyone uses it and it will save the company money in the long run.

Bummer because I really like the short shifter I have in my lariat. It is easy to use and doesn't block the screen/controls.

I wouldn't trust the pictures in the build and price. The electronic shifter is required for any truck with Active Park assist.

Active park assist can't work with the traditional, tall (non-electronic) shifter, so the e-shifter is indeed on all vehicles with active park assist.

Really? Huh. I'll check when I go out to the truck next, but I have the tall shifter, and this one can parallel park for me (although it scares me so I never use it)

Active Park Assist 2.0 is (was) only available on Lariats and Raptors. That's the one that physically moves the shifter by itself and requires the short shifter.

Is this one different? I think that one with the lines is the park asisst.

My button looks the same, i just remember it only being an upper trim option from the early press releases.

It sounds like with active park assist 1.0 you get: The system steers the vehicle into a parking space while the driver shifts, accelerates, and brakes and Only has the Parallel Park In parking mode.

With active park assist 2.0 you get: The system steers, shifts, brakes, and accelerates the vehicle, Can help with parallel and perpendicular parking, and Can alert the driver if there are objects in front of, behind, or next to the vehicle.

so the main difference with the lariat/raptor park assist is just the computer basically doing every action, versus the xlt park assist where it steers but you do the rest.

You know, it is somewhere in the middle. The e-shifter is for vehicles with active park assist 2.0. In this version, the vehicle controls accelerator, brake, steering, and gear selector. This is on the Lariat and Raptor.

Active park assist does the steering and guides the drive to accelerate, brake, and shift.
