I transferred my nifty NextBase dash cam to the new truck using a NextBase factory hardwire kit.

NEXTBASE Universal Dash Cam Hardwire Kit - in Car Hard Wiring Kit Dash Cam Mini/Micro USB adapters

The install was straight forward EXCEPT that I could not figure out how to get to the darned inside fuse box. All information indicates that there is a grab handle/ recess and you simply hinge it downward. That doesn't work, my trim panel is held in place by EIGHT spring pins, you must pull it out at a top corner and work your way around the perimeter, then let it hang down. See following pics for details.

I secured the power supply at the far left of the fusebox area and routed the 5 volt power cable up the left side A pillar trim, after pulling away the rubber door seal, and tucked it into the front edge of the headliner. Excess cable is coiled down at the power supply, not up near the camera.

NOTE: A card with your secure key code is secured by 4 tabs on this fuse panel!!! Keep this code private!

Coming from a Land Cruiser, I have to comment that the Ford wiring looks very crude. Is this "normal"? If you have the door threshold piece off, you need to be sure to put something across those exposed wires to protect them, and to keep the sharp clips from digging into your side. I am NOT impressed!

I would have to agree; I don’t believe that I’ve ever seen wiring look like that in a production vehicle. 🙄

Nice setup. Is fuse #35 for ACC? Did you hook up a yellow wire for constant (Batt)?

I just bought a usb to wire tap and tapped the auto dimming mirror. Worked fine and didn’t have to run wires.

Those three fuses come alive in Accessory mode (the first push of the start button) and stay hot when the engine is running. I did not wire a constant positive wire, My camera does not support that feature, it has an onboard battery good for 30 seconds of recording after powering off. I don’t like the risk of draining the truck battery with a constant hot camera.

I used the same fuse and ground for my aftermarket Homelink Garage Door opener.

You might double check your fuse tap but it looks like it's oriented backwards. I think you're bypassing the fuse. Check with a voltmeter or fuse test light to make sure, pull the fuse out and if you still have power on the other side, it's backwards (or upside down). If so, just flip it so the fuses are pointed up.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to the OP John. I was looking at doing something to the interior of my raptor and needed EXACTLY this information.
Cheers John, awesome post.

@John E Davies - Did you remove the A-pillar trim when you were tucking the wire away?
I've watch a video where someone just tucked it in without removing the trim, but I've also read that sometimes wires can interfere with the airbag deployment if they are not behind it.
Thoughts?

Did you use Dongar for the adapter or did you tap into the hot wire to the mirror? I've used Dongar on previous Toyotas and it's very easy to setup. If you did use Dongar can you tell us what adapter, or if tapping into the hot wire can you tell us the wire/pin you used?

TIA

Nice write up! Just installed mine couple days ago same way with one exception. I have the fuse taps facing the other way. The outside leg of the tap should be on the hot side, which is to right side of all the fuses i tested. Power gets to both fuses directly instead of having to run through the first fuse in the tap block to get to the other fuse. If the first fuse blows, they're both dead. I suggest turning them around and have the wires leaving the tap facing to the left.
