I've decided to go a different route and get a camper cover with a rack for kayaks. So I'm going to sell these, Yakima ladder racks
I’m sitting here hmmming and hawing over my future cover / rack / RTT combo. Currently leaning Diamondback HD with 2 front runner racks that allow the cover to open when nothing big is mounted (found a pic from someone who did this). It’s pretty streamlined for the 90% of other time I’m driving around. But might forego the racks and just use the front runner support bars instead. I’m also intrigued by the iKamper Raconteur racks, but not available for Rangers yet. I’m having an hard time being patient for products to catch up to our new model. Anyway, show me your setup!

No specific pics, but my setup is literally a couple 27 gallon tubs to store camping gear, a milk crate to hold recovery gear not strapped to the bed rails, and a tonneau cover to keep them mostly clean and dry. In other words, I'm basic.

I absolutely love your RR as is…. Color selection, non bead lock wheels and graphics removed. I even love the Yakima Overhaul HD bed rack. I’m in NC too, so let me know if you list the Yakima rack.

Haha, maybe I should have worded the title differently to focus on just camping and hunting ;)
I didn't know the term "overlanding" would cause such a stir. For me its just a generic term for traveling off the road and through the many fields, not necessarily for the specifics of rock crawling, fjording, etc. My original post is quite a bit more modest... a set up for a tent, gear, skis, dog kennels, etc. Surely there are some others out there who are more "outdoorsmen" than "off-roaders" and need their truck to be outfitted appropriately. Hopefully I can see some of the pros and cons of those set-ups as people start building. Cheers!
Are you aware of the forums at expeditionportal.com? (I really hate how people use the term expedition but there is useful info over there)

What size crossbars are those? 55" or 60"? I'm looking at this setup for my kayak. Thx

Smittybilt Scout trailer.

Nice setup! I’ll likely end up with a small trailer like yours with rooftop tent or a small teardrop trailer at some point. I use my bed too much hauling mulch, compost and building materials/tools for Eagle Scout projects and trail work for a local mtn bike club. Other than a bed rack for paddle boards, kayaks and a canoe that can be easily removed, I don’t want to permanently mount gear to or in the bed (drawers or molle rack).

Since no 6’ bed option, the likehood of anyone sleeping in the bed on a cot with a topper is unlikely. That leaves only a rack and rooftop tent combo or a maybe a bed tent that you use with the tailgate down.

I like the idea of a soft topper that can be easy removed and stored. The inflatable brand called Flated has my interest, but only if a longbed is made down the road. Pretty cool idea for those looking for a soft top option though…. https://flated.com/

Nice thing about the trailer is you can unhook it and go exploring in the truck. If mounted in bed you have to put tent away and pack up each day.

Did you install the Yakima rack directly over the plastic bed rail covers? I'm in the market for a truck bed rack as well but hesitant to remove the factory plastic covers to install the rack i have from my old truck.

Yeah it bolted right straight over it, no issues at all. Never had any plan of hauling. Heavy up there, kayaks primarily.

Hello, so I'm back in town. Believe I was supposed to get back to you about selling the rack. I suppose I should create a new post on that. But feel free to reach out. I'm in the Fayetteville, North Carolina area. Thank you

Ouch…. That’s further than I want to travel for parts (I’m in SW Charlotte). I haven’t pulled the trigger on a new truck yet anyhow, so I’ll just wait until I have new wheels to install a rack system. Yakima (and REI) have racks 20% off at least a couple times a year. Good luck in finding a new home for them. I’ve had many of their products over the years and they make some solid racks.

Okay, sounds good no problem. Good luck on your new truck.
