A week after picking up my truck with a new transmission installed I am again feeling the transmission clunking into 3rd gear and then into 1st? Same issues that warranty covered to replace. Guess I need to book it in to diagnose again.

How many miles are on your XLT?

Does this only happen when it is cold? My XLT does a rough downshift stopping at the first intersection. It does not happen after a few minutes of driving. I have about 700 miles on the truck.

Most of us have noticed that the transmission doesn't often use 2nd gear. I see it used more often when I use sport mode.

That being said that seems like more of a programming decision rather than anything physically wrong with the transmission itself.

I tend to agree. In Normal mode with light acceleration, it feels as though the trans skips 2nd gear. I've resorted to using Sport or Tow/Haul modes. In fact, I feel the stock transmission calibration is causing some engine lugging. I'm considering the ProCal tune, but ant to put more miles on my truck first (I only have 1400 miles on it).

Next time you drive, push the "+" on the shifter. It'll show you the gears in the dash and you can watch how it shifts. I've made it a habit every time I drive but I also have just started defaulting to sport mode, the mpg loss is negligible and the driving is much nicer with it using 2nd gear reliably.

You can also hit the "-" after doing that and lock out the upper gears. Similar to how tow/haul mode handles shifting.

Thanks! That's a good tip.

Had my transmission replaced under warranty at 10300 after I took it in to check rough downshifts in sport mode!

Taking it back in to have it checked again next week after having same issues in sport mode only.. normal drive mode smooth up and down. My local dealer service manager said it might just be the quicker shift time in sports mode I am noticing.. find out what he notices on Tuesday.

I have the procal tune on my Ranger Raptor and it definitely makes driving in normal mode way better. Before the tune I always drove in sport mode but now I like normal better.
