Thought I'd try the vacuum extraction method on my first oil change in my Lariat 4X2 2.3lt. I use this with great success with my VW Tiguan. It sucks out all but 2 oz. of oil! Unfortunately with the 2.3 lt engine at least, something prevents the tube (I tried two different sizes) from reaching the base of the oil pan. I only extracted approximately 4 quarts out of six. Damn, I'm getting too old for crawling underneath without having to resort to at least one beer afterwards to ward off the pains from contorting the body. I can reach the oil filter from above. My extractor holds six liters.

Bummer not sure why it would not unless there is some kind of baffle in the oil pan. Maybe others can jump in with some ideas. I could still live with that amount and the oil in the oil filter, if it was the only way to do an oil change. Almost always the oil is still in great shape even after 10K mi

Yea, I'm hoping someone else has tried it successfully and explained why it was. The oil pan is oddly shaped with a lower half at the back side where the drain plug is. I think the end of the tube is hitting the "upper" half and won't/can't make the corner to continue to the bottom part if that makes any sense.

Picked up one of those extractors for my first oil chg. Can say the tube goes all the way down in the 3.0. Put on a Ronin drain plug for future changes.
