While lifting my winshield whipper's last to avoid freezing the whiper to the windshield last night I noticed it was rough and rubbed against the hood. today I went to look and all they paint is rubbed off. anyone else had this happen? Not happy about this at all.

Terrible design.
It’s actually not a terrible design. Almost all manufacturers do this now. It’s an aero design for the wipers to tuck under the hood to stop them lifting at speed. It’s in the owners manual and is very simple to move out from under the hood

As I said - all manufacturers do this now.

They are designed to move manually, grasp either driver or passenger side (they move together with no resistance), and position them wherever you want to clear the hood. Then lift them away from the windshield. I do this whenever I want to dry the windshield after washing my pickup, or clean the windshield.

Just remember to place either or both back against the windshield, and push them back into the parked position when finished.
I'm not familiar with the wiper motor internals but it's usually not advisable to move by hand. Also note per the manual:

These motors have a lot of torque but moving by hand at the end of the wiper arm, you have a lot of mechanical leverage that can strip gears, especially if they are plastic. Just fair warning!

Jesus how many times does the same thing come up.

This has been around on many vehicles for a very long time.
Every time someone damages their hood because they didn't RTFM

That is what i have been doing actually. I didn't know this the first time i tried it and have been doing it since. guess i just didn't pull it forward enough last night thought.

Still kind of a bad design.

I did the same thing to my wife's Ranger Raptor 😖. Someone posted that the owners manual says to turn the truck off while the wiper is at it's highest position ?

In all fairness, the manual says not to grasp and move the wipers by hand to move them out of their stowed position, or dammage may result. In all fairness, the first thing I did when I washed the Truck the first time was grasp and move the wipers by hand to move them out of their stowed position 😄. Then i heard about the manual. Eveything seems fine, though not sure if they're going down as far as before??? I follow the kill power method now. 🤷‍♂️

This is where I picked up that tip. I never had a truck that moved the wipers under the cowl and would just raise my wipers when I needed to.

Once explained it made sense.
Me either but i totally understand the explanation Since i helped my son do some work on his focus st which has the park position way under the hood
