Dang! That looks great! May have to buy one now. Was it easy to install?
Quick and easy. No more than 30 minutes. I prefer the version sold directly by Bakflip because the plastic end caps and the hidden seal along the tailgate give it a better finish.

Are you sure this is a Bakflip? Looks like an Undercover Flex to me. My Bakflip MX4 has plastic end caps on the seals in all four corners.

The Ford OEM one does not come with the plastic corner covers. I have the Ford OEM one and it looks just like the OP's photos. That is my one annoyance with it is the edges just randomly hang over. I wonder if I could fit the plastic corners from BakFlip on the Ford OEM cover. Yours have a clean finished look to them.

There is an upgrade kit that contains the end caps. I have installed them on an older Bakflip that didn't have these caps from the factory. My only doubt is that the MX4 has a hidden seal under the cover along the tailgate, while this Ford-sourced one seems to have it exposed.

I do have the "TruXedo XLP Low Profile Soft Roll Up Cover" installed. Keeps snow, rain and dust out. So the though was that with the Bakflip MX4 you had a lot more security. But you are right, a simple hook would do the job if you know what you are doing. So are you really gaining anything for giving up the convenience of a soft rollup ?
Yes you gain the strength of the aircraft aluminum. I was told 350 pounds on the top. But what is best is that there is no flapping, or wind noise. As for security you are correct, anything can be broken into, but with your soft top parking in the next row, why bother with the bacflip?

I installed BAKFlip MX4 about 2 weeks ago and I love it. I previously had a LEER HF650M on Tacoma TRDPro. Mine seals very well and CANNOT be 'pryed' open easily. Each segment latches. The best thing about it is the full use of the bed and the fact that it protects the cab rear window. Yes, you can't see out the window but who cares, I have side view and can use the rear camera when traveling to see what's behind me if I want to. Also it claims it can hold up to 400lbs. I have not tested, but that seems pretty good. Mine also says Bakflip and has the corner caps.
Which cover do you like better, the MX4 or the Leer?

I think I like the Bakflip for 2 reasons: (1) Leer warrantee is 3-yr ; Bakflip is 5-yr. (2) When the leer is folded all the way up, it does not actually rest against the cab. It has some piece that keeps it vertical (about 2-3 inches away from the cab). The Bakflip actually comes with small pads and it rests right against the cab. The advantage here is strength. If I am carrying something tall & heavy (like a refrigerator, a ATV or a 55 drum - I have done all of the above) - and I had to stop suddenly, I believe the bakflip would handle the impact. Those 2 things aside, both are great and install reasonably similar/easy and seem similar with respect to keeping things in the bed dry and secure.

Do you need the j-braces if you go with this type of hard folding bed cover?

No as long as it's not over 88 lbs(Ford's quote) or even 100 lbs all is good. Tonneau covers spread the weight around so it's not just constant weight on the corners with the J brace.

I have the same one on my raptor and I absolutely love it. It’s very watertight!

Is the rubber suppose to hang off the back of the tail gate? Does it not come with end caps like the picture on the ford website? I would of thought it would be more inline with the tail gate?

the photo online looks like it has end caps and it’s flush with the tail gate.
I am getting my ford TEU fold cover installed today. If it doesn’t I am going to return it.
