My diesel FORDs broke down and I needed a winter gasoline 4x4 vehicle. 6 weeks ago I bought the cheapest gasoline powered truck I could find in Alaska with a real locking differential, tow package and engine block heater For $34,ooo. My 4 cylinder 4X4 2024 Ranger XL STX is the base model and I actually wish it had less features and electronics. It broke down (steering and electronic) on the way home from the dealership and wouldn’t start the next morning. After I got it to the dealership they had it for 2 weeks and did a good job addressing the several issues, but the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) is still hard to turn below zero degrees- I am going to try to put some 12 volt heat pads on the gearbox to warm it when it is running and hope this fixes it. I just had it serviced with 05-30 synthetic FORD oil at the dealer and they did a great job checking everything out. Because it had so many initial problems I lost trust in the truck, but now that I am driving it I am really starting to enjoy everything about it. I’m getting over +20 MPG, I like the FORDPASS for remote starting, but I have concerns about the spying and DATA sharing. It now has 800 miles on it and I am getting ready to park it soon for the summer. I plan on keeping it and buying an extended warranty at 2 1/2 years about when I pay it off. I’m going to put heat pads on the engine and transmission oil pans for cold weather winterizing, buy leather seat covers and rubber floor mats, put 2” lift struts on the front, put 33” tires on and drop the front differential 1”. I’m going to weld up a “roll bar” for behind the cab to put moose lights on. I would like to replace the tie rod ends with some heavy duty Rough Country ones but not sure of the part #s and I don’t know if the bronco are a direct swap for this T6.2 with a M20 EPS gearbox, and I will keep the originals for spare parts. I plan on getting a spare front hub, belts and hoses, and putting an oil catch can on it along with a K&N cold air kit. I am glad I bought the truck, it’s a great beater with a heater.

I've been involved with a fair amount of social research in my work and quite like the three-choice scale. When you offer 5, often almost everybody says 3 or 4. This forces you to make a more difficult choice and it is telling that overwhelmingly people in this forum chose "really good." Granted, I'm guessing most people here are fans of the truck, so it's a biased self-selection, but still...92%!
Is this still true even today? It seems like 5 point scales are rigged nowadays to produce only 5.0 ratings. Anything less is oddly viewed as a failure. Met expectations? 5*. Instead of the 3* it should be.

As a psychometric measure it’s still the standard, but that doesn’t apply here because the post didn’t aim to do research, so you’re correct insofar as non-professional uses like the example here. They can be susceptible to biases like Central Tendency and Acquiescence bias and they need to be designed thoughtfully to avoid various issues, but yeah.

My only point is if you’re doing a survey and two thirds of your possible response choices are negative, you may be cherry picking. 🍻

I’m specifically referring to Likert scales here, not just any 5 point scale like the ones car salesman send you!🤣🍻
