Can someone set the record straight here on exactly what a "dealer allocation" means and most importantly does a dealer have to have an "allocation" available to be able to get your order in play immediately ?

Basically it means Ford has given the dealer a specific number of vehicles that can be built. The allocations are given per model. And yes the dealer needs to have an allocation for a vehicle to get scheduled.

To use the ranger as the example, let’s say they have two allocations for rangers then they can have two rangers scheduled to be built if they have in the order bank whether customer order(retail) or dealer order(stock).

Ranger also has two different types of allocations. There are allocations specifically for raptors and allocations for non-raptors.

I would suggest checking out some of the weekly scheduling videos from long McArthur ford. They do a good job of explaining it or answering questions about it.

Before the COVID supply chain mess, I do not remember allocations for customer orders being a thing that went against a dealers allocations for on lot retail stock?
