I have a Ranger XLT, only the flat 4 trailer connector. I had a local company install a cap on the bed, they wired the brake light into the trailer brake light (yellow wire) behind the connector. Everything wass great until we had a snow storm come through. I think their splice got water in it. Now my truck thinks there is a trailer attached. I took their splice out, dryed it out and installed a sealed splice. Still thinks a trailer is attached. Disconnect that splice everything is normal again. My question is, is there a better place to tap into to get the brake light to work that is not in trailer connector? Anyone have a wire diagram for the tailights?

most places that dont take the lazy way out, run a wire to the 3rd brake, or the brake pedal switch. if you tap into the trailer plug, your cap brake also flashes with your turn signal that its tapped into
