I have Adaptive Cruise Control turned off and both Speed Limiter functions disabled in the vehicle settings page.

The buttons for turning on Intelligent Speed Limiter and Volume - are very close together!

Ford Ranger 2024 RR - Can I PERMANENTLY disable the Speed Limiter (LIM) button on the steering wheel? IMG_6786

Today I was driving in heavy traffic, I turned down the volume and accidentally turned on the Speed Limiter, at just a few mph. I was turning right in front of approaching traffic and accelerated ….. and nothing happened. I put my foot to the floor and the truck accelerated more or less normally. At first it felt as if the engine had gone into Limp Home Mode, and I was very confused. Until I saw the LIM light on the dash.

I think this is very unsafe, the button needs to be well isolated from any other buttons. Being right next to a volume button is insane IMHO..

I want to permanently turn off the system, including the LIM button. Is that even possible? Through Forscan maybe? Or OBD Fusion? The latter I already have, but the 2024 Ford database is not yet available to purchase. Please advise!

For now, I am going to use the volume knob on the center display rather than the steering wheel buttons!

I am right there with you. I have no use for it at all and it can be dangerous. I made the mistake of hitting the button while taking it home from the dealer and played hell figuring out what I had done. Meanwhile the legal speed limit had jumped from 35 to 55 and traffic was stacking up behind me. No thanks, I don't require Nanny Assist features.

I find it useful for small towns, many of which try to fund their town through ticket writing. I drove through one town on 395 that had about 4 cop cars lined up on a side street to write tickets.

That is off topic. I dislike the system and want to disable it. I understand the PURPOSE of the system. I personally do not use the radar cruise control because I dislike having my vehicle slow down when I don’t want it to…. this thread isn’t for like or dislike comments. I think the button location is poor engineering and is definitely dangerous if you push it accidentally in heavy traffic.

Thanks.

Hey man, no need to snap at him for giving a reason why it exists. He was trying to be helpful

Its a new generation of truck, so you're unlikely to find someone that has spent time in Forscan trying to remove features. You're more likely to find someone trying to do the opposite. If you dislike it as much as you say, have you considered removing the electronics from the wheel and desoldering the button from the cluster?

I had the same problem when I picked up my RR. I excepted the steering wheel controls were very similar to my 2019 F 150, NOT. I too pushed the LIM button and couldn’t figure out why my truck kept slowing down. I Don’t know how to shut it off permanently but if there is a way to do it, I would.

I’ll be watching this thread to see if anyone has a solution.

In Europe they are looking at mandatory systems to keep vehicles from speeding. I’m sure Americans will soon Also have to deal with the nanny state mandate.

LIM is super dumb. I'll be removing and repurpose the switch.

The other thread on this suggested mute (or pause). Honestly, I've gotten used to it being there and only had one mishap with the button in 6k miles, but I agree it's not in an ideal place. There are quite a few things I'd change about the design and implementation of the interior.

OP, the "Intelligent Speed Limiter" switch that you show in your first post simply disables the speed sign recognition function of the speed limiter - it does not disable the limiter itself.

The speed limiter is a great feature once you get used to it and are more familiar with the steering wheel buttons. I don't care for the "Intelligent" function however as it tends to get the speed wrong too often. I'd recommend disabling that function.

To my all European friends only way to disable speed limit warning and lane keep/center assist is to cover the mirror windshield camera, but you will get an error that the camera is dirty and you need to clean it and after you will have an orange icon in the left of rpm. 🤷🏽

Have you found a way to do that? I’m about to buy a new set of buttons and super glue the LIM button in place so it won’t move when accidentally pressed. Keep the original for when or if I sell or trade it in.

I actually bought a second set of Cruise Control buttons with the intention of locking the LIM button somehow and installing it. Then I remembered a low tech solution I used on my 2019 Ranger which had a similar issue of hitting a button unintentionally. I simply put a small rubber bumper on the Button I would want to be pressing without taking my eyes off the road. Feeling the bumper on the button confirms I have the right one and not the LIM button! Not a perfect solution, but worked perfectly all the time.

Seems so many of your post are negative and something you dislike. Perhaps this vehicle and its technology was the wrong choice of vehicle for you.
