Just purchased 2024 Ranger 3.2 ecoboost XLT FX4 4X4.
I was hoping for mpg numbers to be a little better. With 500 miles on it I'm averaging between 18.7 and 19 mpg. I live in the foothills (Auburn, Ca)
with elevation change from sea level to 2000ft. 19 mpg is the best I've gotten even going down hill with an average freeway distance of 20 miles. No long trips yet. Some other owners are reporting up to 25 mpg on thier freeway trips. I drive very concervitaly and have it in eco mode. Any thoughts?

We saw this with the Bronco too. Some folks were getting 17mpg, while others claimed 22mpg. Based on the chatter, it seems that tires, weight and terrain dictated MPGs. Straight flat at 65mph with a 2wd, you're going to get decent mileage. Once you start adding hills, FX4, LT tires, etc..., you will likely not see those high numbers. For reference, I have a 2-door Bronco Outer Banks with passenger A/T tires and the 2.7L, and average 20-21 mpg, mostly city driving in Phoenix--very flat. Same vehicle with Sasquatch pkg (lifted and bigger tires) gets 16-17.

It's hard to know how different drivers compare, but that's way lower than I've been getting in the same truck. I live at 5,400 feet, and do a fair amount of driving up to 8-9,000 feet. My average is typically 23 mpg (according to the truck computer).

Stupid question - do you keep in 2H most of the time?

Yep I use every fuel saving trick I can think of. What is your average trip number of miles driven

does the computer track that? A lot of short trips (less than 5 miles) and a lot of long trips up into the mountains.

My highway MPG is pretty close to that. Same here also, near sea level and mostly flat. My best was 26.5 MPG but that was 55 MPH on few back highways.

As they say your mileage may vary but while I kept track for awhile I was averaging 22 point something MPG. Now at 9,800 miles the mileage seems to have improved as shown on the dash display (and I have found that the dash display is about .4 MPG high). As I remember the gas mileage during the first couple thousand miles was lower than it is now. I am satisfied with the gas mileage as it is very close to the estimated gas mileage on the window sticker.

Thanks, I'm hoping mine will get better

I drive at elevations between 6000 and 10000 ft in western Colorado, where the gas octane is lower than elsewhere. I got 27.5 on a trip, widows up at 100+ degrees full air hauling 500+ lbs. Typically average 24.something, except this tank has some mountain jeep trails and some heavy work trailer on it. My thought on Eco mode in hilly highway driving is that it doesn't help at all., I think it's for city and stop and go. Try a couple of tankfulls of mid grade or higher and see if that doesn't improve mpg. I have most of a case of Lucas Octane booster I use in a Subie turbo that really helped it because even premium around here wasn't good enough, and I'm adding a quarter bottle of it to the regular gas I'm using in the Ranger. I'm also using cruise control a lot as well. ( my other ride is an emergency vehicle, and I'm a bit fast, so I'm really trying to avoid speeding tickets in the Ranger)

Thanks, just drove down to L.A. 500 miles best I got was 24.
6 mpg @ 74 mph average is 21 to 23 mpg.. in eco mode
On the way back will try 89 octane and normal mode. Boy what a comfortable easy driving truck to drive. Just love it.
Will let you know what the return trip numbers are.
Thanks for your response

I wonder if Eco mode works better at sea level. Up here, it feels like it's lugging the engine and making it downshift a lot more than Normal.

Yes Eco more for flat if I was in more hilly area I would use Normal or maybe even Sport.

Geez. I get 24-25 mpg in my F150 Supercab 4x4, 3.55 gears (open differential) BFG AllTerrain KO2 tires on I5 in Oregon, cruise set at 69mph!
