2.7L - It’s Zippy - 11,670 feet Guanella Pass Road Trip
Driving impression.
Wow, this 2.7L is zippy. I would never confuse this as a sports car, but the 2.7L 4x4 Lariat Fx4 with no load in the back really moves. Have an ARE topper to be installed next week and will be curious with the extra couple of hundred pounds how it will stabilize the back end.
Got 24 mpg from the trip computer over 100 ish miles from my home. Been averaging about 20 mpg break in miles driving around town going through different RPM’s.
Time to shake off the cobwebs!
Started in Golden Colorado at 5,675 feet of elevation, drove along US 6 (curvy/several tunnels) to I-70 Idaho Springs at 7,526 feet.
On to Georgetown at 8,520 feet, exit for the Guanella Pass Road. https://www.codot.gov/travel/colorado-byways/north-central/guanella-pass Went from 85 to 72 degrees in an hour on a beautiful sunny day.
Stopped at the Cabin Creek Hydro Plant - https://www.loc.gov/item/co1014/ Gave the dogs a potty break, leg stretch and snack.
22 miles of total up and down with many switch backs to the top of the pass (11,670 feet) . Down to Grant Colorado 8,606 feet. Smooth….
Down again on US285 to Baily Colorado following the North Fork of the Colorado River 7,740 feet.
Now I could really get the 2.7L to stretch its legs. Out of Baily, Crow Hill is one of two steep climbs up to Conifer Colorado 8,277 feet - 537 foot gain from Baily over 12 miles and this engine has get up and go….very happy! Might have to rename it Stuby Goat…it climbs!
Back down to Morrison Colorado at 6,368 feet.
5,985 feet of elevation gain and I’m impressed with this truck’s capability on road. I wanted the six popper since my work takes me into the hills (mountains) on a very regular basis carrying samples. Then there is the camping/fishing and frolic trips to come next summer as temperatures at night are just above freezing at about 9,000 feet of altitude currently. Ski areas deeper in the hills are starting to make snow.
Just over 1,000 miles on the odometer and I’m in Happy Camper mode. Hope you all are also enjoying your ride.
