2024 Ranger XLT. I just completed a 6000 mile road trip to Florida and back. Almost all highway driving. i experienced what I would consider jerky/clunky downshifting at highway speeds when downshifting from top gear to a lower gear for passing or hill climb. I would expect much smoother performance from the 10 speed transmission. I understand the turbo may lag a bit and cause a sudden burst of power/torque when it kicks in. Is this normal for these transmissions? or is this something that i need to have the dealer address. Thanks

I have a 2024 Ranger XLT FX4 4X4 2.3 ecoboast engine with the same problem at about 4k miles had the dealership reset the transmission to relearn my driving habits. Have 6k on it now and problem has been fixed with the reset. No more rough shifts.

Thanks JR. I'll ask them to do that when I take it for Oil change and tire rotation next week. Sounds like you and I have the same truck and trim.

So here's an update on my transmission issue. I booked an initial oil change today and explained my concerns and observations regarding my transmission. my service advisor advised me it would need to be evaluated by the transmission shop and that will take 3-4 weeks. WHAT?!!!! I never heard of such a thing. I asked him if I could get on the schedule and bring it in when they were ready for me, and he said "NO, it has to be here so it's here when they are ready for it." So now I will be without my truck for a month while they put me in the transmission service queue. They will be supplying a loaner but that stinks that my new truck is at the dealer for a month.
Are there known issues with the transmissions in these that they are not letting us know about? Are they intentionally getting this off the road to minimize any additional damage to the transmission because they know there are issues?

That's ridiculous, I would try a different dealer.

Update: I showed up at the dealer and spoke with one of their service managers rather than my service advisor drone. He told me that was the policy at this dealer for transmission issues. He said he understood my frustration with it. He also said he came from another dealer and this process was not what he was used to. After further discussion we agreed to have the service tech reset the TCM. I explained that is what I would have considered to be a reasonable first step. I got the Oil change service and TCM reset completed and am now driving the vehicle to re-learn the TCM.
In hindsight, I wonder if the dealership isn't making bank off of Ford by charging them for customer loaners while they sit on vehicles for warranty service?

That is not the experience I had for same issues with rough down shifting around 10000. I waited 4 hrs at my local ford service department and was told I needed a new transmission. They gave me the keys, told me they would call when new one arrived from Ford.
I drove it for 2 1/2 weeks... they called and I dropped it off, they replaced it and called me end of second day to come pick it up in the morning..
Your dealership could be a lot busier than mine? Could possibly be a different issue? but it sounds very similar and that was my experience.

We'll see how it goes. Still in the relearn period as I do not put too many miles on the truck daily.
