Tired of the athleticism it takes to get into the truck bed.

Maybe it’s bad knees from the deployment, being spoiled with an at4 pro flex bed step, or not doing it properly but I’m looking (or will have to design) something of a telescoping ladder or foot stirrup to climb up and into the Ranger raptor bed. I hear the exhaust prohibits the side step option. Does anyone else feel the same or found any aftermarket option?

Putting the Kuat rack over the bed works pretty well giving you a handle to pull yourself up by.

I actually have a plastic 2 step folding stool that I keep inside my bed. My knees and back can’t handle getting in and out of the bed.
I also use a 2 step stool.

I ordered my truck as well with the side step, really not knowing the truck was so tall until i saw it in person, glad i did. Really not finding an issue to climb into the bed even at 66 yrs of age.

I also use a 2 step stool.
I just bought a new one, out for delivery today. Not quite as wide as the last one, but folded, it will stand upright under the cover. I put red/white reflective tape across the top so I can see it at night. Learned that the hard way.

I am pretty sure you can do one side of the Raptor bedside steps, the exhaust interferes with the other side. There have been several posts about bed side steps the last couple days with good info.

See this post (Limitless Chasis Bedstep):

Pros:
  • Super durable
  • Easy to use and can handle heavy weight
  • Great for hauling things that require tailgate to be down - provides a backstop
Cons:
  • Expensive (at the time I purchased it was only available in AUS. $895USD + International shipping $350USD)
  • Difficult to install. I had to add a lot 'gap washers' to accommodate for the varying mounts to the tailgate
Looks like this listing on eBay is something similar - it says it fits Ford Ranger, but not showing as compatible with Ford Ranger Raptor: https://www.ebay.com/itm/3046752444...=2047675&ssuid=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

If you can physically use a single 20" step, this works most excellently and it doubles as a camp sitting bench, or for standing on while accessing a roof rack or washing or detailing the truck. It stores vertically across the very back of the bed against the closed tailgate with a few inches to spare. You need some secured cargo boxes or a ratcheting bar to hold it there... .Don't pay full price - the box stores have crazy Werner discounts (up to 50% off) on major holidays like Fathers Day. This is a VERY strong, high quality item.

I sure would *NOT* want to bolt down a ladder or extendable platform to my tailgate! Yikes! I have tried folding portable ladders; the cheap ones are dangerous and even a $100 one is going to be risky for older people and especially on uneven surfaces. Ladders injure a lot of people, especially seniors with balance and strength issues! (like me.)

The standard Ranger bed steps do not fit the RR mainly due to the exhaust piping. Pretty sure they would fit with an exhaust or depth modification. The steps do not need to be as "deep" as they are. BUT ... there are SIX PIECES for the step and the collective cost is high. Add that cost to the modifications required and it doesn't make economic sense - even at my old age.

I placed an order in early December, but without the side steps. After reading through this thread, I realized how much I rely on the "ladder" that's built in to the tailgate on my F150, so I swung by the dealership this morning and updated my order to include the integrated box side steps. Turned out to be a double win, the dealer moved my up from priority code 19 to 3 without my even asking for it!

I greatly appreciate your replies! I don’t think I’m gonna go direct install with an amazon piece, been tinkering with a heavy duty TV mount as a way to manipulate the ladder to some dual purpose… ended up with this but will let yall know how the final product turns out. Again, thank yall for your input, that’s what forums are for!
