I have a running thread I started with my oil analysis data. Has my first three changes in it and am currently waiting on results for my 4th oil change sample.

Hey Hootbro on your very first oil change could you see a small amount of shavings WITH YOUR EYES, today I changed my oil for the second time had 2983 miles total with 2100 miles on this oil change ,and the metal shavings were barely noticeable but could see a very tiny amount ,not like the first oil change ,probably there were some medal that didn't totally come out on the first change

I did the break in oil change on mine last Saturday. I have the 4x4 XL and there is a plastic molded aero plate ( I would not call it a true skid plate) that is held in place by 6ea 15mm head bolts. Aluminum oil pan with 15mm head drain bolt.

Oil flows relatively easy but there is a wire harness on a cross beam than may get a splash of oil. I installed a Fumoto while I was in there. Even with a Fumoto Valve installed, one is going to have to remove that plastic molded aero plate each time for access. No way to snake your hand up there otherwise.

Oil filter access is not quite exactly like the 23 and back from what I gather. The fender liner is like one piece that goes the full half circumference of the wheel wheel. There does seem to be a cut out divit where the oil filter is on the other side and removing one of scrivit near it and you can pull back enough to get access to remove and install the filter. To get direct access on the filter with an extension and filter wrench cap, kind of have to put the filter wrench cap on first and the snake through some hard brake lines to get the extension on. Once the filter is loosened, have to then take everything off it and then reach back in and unscrew and remove by hand. The funnel drain system seem to work ok.

One observation I made is that I removed the oil filter first before draining the pan. Oil will steadily heavy drip out the oil filter mount until the pan is drained. So I would recommend doing the pan drain first before the oil filter.

Also did it on the ground and clearance was tight and will probably try it next time on some ramps.

I know this is probably worthless to most with no pictures but maybe will give a primer of what to expect first time doing a 2.3L Ranger.
Which Fumoto valve did you use? Did you need the extension for the valve?

I do not recall. It will take 3-4 oil changes before wear metals level out.

If someone would come up with a extended drain tube so you don't have to remove that plastic pan, or the skid plate on a FX4, I would buy one.
Had the plastic pan on my XL. Really was not that big of a deal to remove with the small impact I have. On a sliding scale of difficulty, the oil filter is the real pain in all of this.

Has anyone changed oil yet on the new generation Ranger with the 2.3 engine? Am wondering if the dimension changes to the Gen 6 Ranger have made the oil filter access easier or harder? I know what it's like having to access the filter on the previous generation through the left front wheel well but with the front wheels on the new generation being moved further forward what is it like to access the filter now. Also, does the 2.3 engine use the plastic engine oil drain plug?
Hi changed my oil today, I have 2024 6gen ford ranger supercrew 4x4 and from underneath you can grab the filter and turn it to loosen it then the top finish unscrewing the filter under the hood kind a pain but just have to stick your arm through til you can grab it I don't mess with the wheel well, like Hootbro said it becomes easier as you go along with oil changes !! my plug is steel !!

I am going to try and so it without removing anything. I have a 3.0 in my 94 ranger and its tricky to change also. So much so that most of the guys on the older ranger foum ssid they cannot change it from up too and have to do some bending to get it out.

I am able to squeeze my hands in and can still bend my wrist enough to be able to get the filter out

Hello 👋 lol I once had a 99 ford ranger ran it over 200k miles then sold it , to me it was easy ,really the only thing is the steering shaft was kinda in the way but was able to change it ,these new rangers have more wires, hoses etc less room !!
