I just purchased a new 2024 Ford Ranger and have had it for a few weeks. I have about 350 miles on it and have been using it mainly for driving locally (the reason the miles are not very high). Recently I was driving on the highway at about 70 mph and was passing another car which put the speed at about 80 mph for less than a minute. I thought I heard a brief but rather loud noise (not sure how to describe it other than it was loud enough to catch my attention). Not sure if it came from within the truck or outside the truck. I drove the truck for another 20 miles or so on the highway and the side roads and did not notice any handling problems or any engine/system problems.

Does anyone know what the maximum speed is during the break-in period? Everything I have read uses the word "excessive" to describe the maximum speed. I live in the Chicago suburbs and tollway driving is normally 70 mph and 80 mph for passing is not considered excessive (IMHO).

Thanks in advance!

Mine also made a few odd loud noises on the highway, but I feel it was rocks that were stuck in the treads flying loose. What I did notice was, in the first 100 to 200 miles the steering was oddly pulling to the right a
little. Think I read that the tires needed break in miles. Anyway, 700+ miles and all is good. I love the truck

Thanks for the info. I really like the truck too, it's actually my first pickup truck so I'm learning as I go. Since I'm a newbie I'm probably a little over cautious :) .

its rpm you should limit over the first 1,000 miles and varying your speed as you drive per manual. No redline runs in the first 1,000 miles.

Thanks Wolf. That makes it much clearer. I wish the manual would say don't redline because "excessive" speed is very subjective.

I'm thinking of getting mine into alignment shop for a check. Not pulling and drives nice and straight but I do know some factory alignments are crap. Got about 1700 miles on it now.

Can’t speak for all dealers but mine has an actual alignment checker in the drop off lane. Clamp onto each rim, align the lasers and it’s golden

I'll be at the dealer tomorrow for first oil change (1700 miles).
I am headed across US and back which will put me over the oil change interval if I don't do it now. I will check with them to see what they do if anything for alignment checks.
