I'm looking at getting a Ranger XLT and I've been thinking adding the rear locker since it would be hard to add one after the fact and I've been thinking about getting running boards to help my wife and dog get into the truck. This begs the questions should I just get the FX4 package?

How is the ride quality of the standard XLT vs an XLT with the FX4 package on pavement? This is where I'll be doing 90% of my driving. No stock near me so I can't do a back to back drive.

What does the off road tunes shocks really mean? Are they different shocks? How are they tuned?

Is the truck lifted at all with the FX4 package?

Does the FX4 add any other changes to the truck or anything else to consider?

FX4 is one of the greatest held Ford mysteries of all time. Honestly I got the FX4 mainly because I already wanted the running boards (which come with the package). The Sport has a much better sticker IMHO.

I can not answer for the XLT ride with out the FX4 package as I have a Lariat with FX4
It rides like a mid size truck to me and my wife.
The running boards and locking rear are $1115.00 and the package is $1495.00 difference of $380.00

I have the XLT with the F4X, it rides very nice, handles flat in corners, and is pretty well behaved much like a SUV but a bit firmer. Great on the highway, gravel roads, city streets. A lot of handling effects are also due to the tires. Overall, it's pretty impressive. It doesn't appear to me to be lifted.

I agree 100 with this and have little to add. My order (which finally got "built" today after two months in production) was a Sport with the LRD, but I'm very happy with the FX4, even though it will rarely be employed. Someone will snatch up my order on delivery, I am very sure. But I am thrilled with what I ended up with. BTW, finding a non-FX4 in a dealer stock isn't going to be easy, unless you find a Lariat.

I opted for the FX4 package mostly to get the offroad modes/screen and the skid plates. You get a front skid plate and an engine/transfer case skid plate. However, I have already changed my suspension out for better Bilstein stuff and plan on getting some aftermarket skid plates that provide a bit more coverage. I also would rather have the electronic diff locker button be a physical button (it's a digital button on the center screen with the FX4 that you can only get to after you hit the Offroad Mode button down near the drive mode selector) so if I did it again I would by a Sport with the locker and just wait for aftermarket skid plates/suspension/tires. Not sure how useful the offroad modes are, haven't had to use them yet. FX4 has no lift over a Sport version.

If you do any driving off road, snow, mud or ice, you want the "locking rear end".
The FX4 package gives you all the stuff you need for off road at a discounted price.

I had a 21 Lariat Sport that I traded in for a 24 Lariat FX4. I cannot say that I notice any changes in the ride quality on the highway or gravel. I do find the more aggressive tires on the 24 hold the gravel in and like to fling it once you hit pavement, but mudflaps and undercoat take care of that.

Load it up with all those packages. I have a 2024 Ranger XLT FX4 4X4, locking differential, advanced trailer, safety and technology packages. My truck drives like a dream. It was the main reason why I choose it over, tacoma and colorado. You won't be sorry.

I'm in tune with this post...with the first two sentences. Only drawback to running boards is they are attached to the body, not the frame. Put in the filler for bling and to help keep the boards a bit cleaner.

The ride rides pretty darn good...I'm happy camper.

I just got a 2024 FX4 4X4 lariat and I think it rides like a firm caddy on the highway. I'm glad I got the off road upgrades even if I will hardly use it.

Had no idea about this. Thanks for telling about the locker button versus the touchscreen.
