That's a very good point on their wish to move to a direct sales model. I think they have some deeply rooted communication issues between their departments, which is only ever bad for external communications. They'll need to solve that and have a rock-solid consumer web portal with accurate info long before they can think about getting out of the dealership model. Until the day I can look up everything I could possibly need to know online without going through a dealer, they will only ever make a stronger case to stick with their current sales modelYes, that would be helpful. It does seem that some orders get built on-time, some get delayed and some after being built get held up for unknown reasons. It would be nice to have more details as a customer placing an order on a ~$60k vehicle. I think that is where all the car manufacturers could improve things if they ever want to move to a direct sales/delivery model. Customers want accurate information and timelines and if something changes just provide a detailed update. I'm off my soapbox now but with so many challenges in the car industry this just seems like a good way for a manufacturer to differentiate themselves from the competition. Hopefully Ford is reading this and maybe consider improving the process and communications.
