I bought my 24 Ranger XLT one week ago. I did get the extended warranty and service plans.

Thanks to this forum I found out about Granger and Flood. I am working to get plans through Granger.

Now, my local dealer is in a panic! I sent them the information from Granger. And then I found out that the warranty they are selling is a third party warranty! It's not even the Ford Premiumcare. It's through Equi-pro.

The only materials I was shown related directly to Ford service products.

Is there any advantage or disadvantage to having an Equi-pro service contract instead of the Premiumcare extended warranty through Ford directly?

My gut is telling me to stick with the Ford products for a brand new vehicle purchase.

When I bought in '21, the dealer tacked on a 6yr 100K ESP from Easy Care, which was $2200.
I canceled that plan, had them refund the money to my financial institute, then bought an 8yr 125K for $1600 thru Grainger.
I would advise getting it thru Ford if you can. Some of these 3rd party ESPs are shady.
With a Ford plan, you can take it to any Ford shop, and repairs will be done with Ford OEM parts.
You may have to fight 3rd party ESP to do actual repairs, and they are not restricted to Ford shops or Ford parts.

Thanks. That was my thought exactly.

I actually just got the new contracts from my dealer for the Ford policies, and they are just beating out Granger on the extended warranty by adding the first day and enhanced rental for the same price as Granger offered without those add-ons.

It does help that I already filled out my Ford survey honestly, and dinged them hard for the warranty and service plan up sale. The GM actually offered to take the truck back. I told him the problem is not the truck. I love the truck and I got a good deal on it. The issue is the overpriced warranty and service plan.

I would advise sticking with the Ford plan. Keep in mind though, they are not a true warranty but a service plan and will lack some of the same protections the factory warranty has. Very prudent to keep all documented service receipts and notes going back to day one and not just from when the factory warranty coverage expires and then the Ford Plan takes over.

Thank you!

Yes, I do understand they are technically service plans, but with all the tech and expensive parts, I certainly want the additional coverage.

I would think that having the service and work done at a Ford dealer's service center would make it easier to track all of the maintenance and repairs through the Ford app. I should only have to take extra steps to save this information if I go outside of Ford. Am I wrong with that assumption?

In theory yes, but I would still keep a paper copy of anything the dealership does and not rely on them to have your info on file. Same with any outside dealership service you do or third party, keep a log and receipts of everything.

Whether it is a Ford ESP or a third party coverage, the key is to read the actual contract language. Many times there is some outs for them that would not fly under the factory warranty the Magnuson Moss Warranty act law prohibits but will under a ESP. Some of those clauses adhere to mods and use of actual factory parts used in prior repairs.

I ended up signing up for the Ford plans with my current dealer. They matched Granger's pricing and added a couple upgrades at no additional cost.

They bent over backwards AFTER I completed my Ford survey and Google review. The GM is very concerned about their ratings with Ford. I hate that it took that to get a fair deal. I'm pretty sure they're going to send me a new survey to complete. I'll add more narration to it, but they are completely daft if they think I'll give them 5s across the board after I've had to do all this extra work.
