DIY subwoofer install: 8" JL 3wc3 and custom box

So instead of shuffling out $1k for JLs custom box we're gonna go the DIY route.

So far I have removed the plastic tray insert. Then mocked up a cover with some cardboard off of the tray top, I am utlizing all factory holes in the body work for attachment. I made two different tops, becuase there are a few contours that would not be covered by the base pattern I had to add a few edges in spots to cover the contoured spots.

So far cover is done now I am waiting on my dynamatting and some polyester insulation to fill a few voids in the body structure.

Great job, Thanks for sharing. I’m looking into a Polk Car Audio system for the Ranger right now. I had this system in a 2nd Gen Tundra in the early 2000’s. Crystal clear sound at any volume level. Thanks again

Alright so, utilizing the factory holes in the bodywork did not go as planned. M15 self thread screws do not exist, so had to improvise. used plastic threaded body clips and sheet metal screws for the two front attachment points. as for the other 3 factory holes i used drywall inserts and just some sheet metal screws, however that really did not create a solid hold. so i did use 3 self tapping screws which was alright, there are places to use self thread with out going through the floor pan.
dyna matt to cover the body and used some polyester speaker insulation to fill the empty cavities. the speaker wires will go through a small opening at the hump into the driver side where the amp and the rest of the wiring will be. however i am going to let the pros do that considering this isn't the days of just swapping head units. ill let them have that liability.
